Ehlers.
I think both will put up similar offensive numbers but Ehlers has the big edge in HITS/BLKS
Which scoring winger do you prefer and why? Ehlers or Gaudreau?

Gaudreau for me as he's Calgarys main offensive weapon and has nobody who can take his spot on top PP, top line, now Ehlers has players like Wheeler/Laine/Scheifele/Little and eventually Connor to contend with and 1 cold streak can have him drop off top line or top powerplay

I want Gaudreau here until it is more clearly not Gaudreau. That may come next season or it may never come. I'm not there yet and would keep Gaudreau. I think his opportunity is better and his team is better plus he's more proven and had a really rough start to the year.

MZac and DIJ share my sentiments. Calgary's offence goes where Gadreau takes it, Ehlers had a pretty understated season and I think he can build on it but there is a risk, with the players around him, that his usage could be impacted whereas Gadreau is THE man
Experience is the teacher of all things.
I wouldn't trade my Ehlers for Gaudreau, but in my league we also count PIM in addition to Hits and Blocks. So Gaudreau is basically useless in 3 categories.
Ehlers. Gaudreau's poor showing in hits and blocks offsets the 10-15 points more you might get out of him. He's really poor in this format compared to name value.
If you're worried about either players peripheral stats, you're likely losing those categories every week, or the bottom of those cats in a roto league. This is about pure production and with 61, 78, 64 pts do you really know what Gaudreau is bringing next year? I go Ehlers. He's surrounded by talent, which only increases his value. JH doesn't have the supporting cast.
Ehlers, and I sleep easy

I also like Ehlers here. He had a break out year and will only get better playing alongside Scheifele and Laine for years to come.

OP references a scoring winger and not peripherals?
May ay be worth clarifying...
Experience is the teacher of all things.
I like Ehlers a lot but I think he needs to at least repeat this past season production for me to think about taking him before Gaudreau.
I hate to simply quote numbers here, but:
Gaudreau has put up 204pts in 232 NHL games. He had an awesome breakout season as a rookie. Sophomore season was no slump with a pt/gm. His 'slow' season this year was 61pts in 72 games, and it was growing pains after getting his big payday and early season holdout. Not to mention the wrist injury from Staal's slash. The guy has superstar written all over him, and is practically the face of his franchise.
Ehlers is awesome, i love him. He is quite underrated, and is the most cost effective way to buy into the WPG production. He is at 104pts in 154 NHL games, despite being surrounded with ALOT of talent. Great skater, great hands, will continue to put up great numbers.
In my mind they just don't compare. If you sort them within the same tier, Gaudreau is much higher with that tier. When you add in the extra stats it evens it out a bit, and peripherals are easier to predict than pure points. I just thinking special scoring talent is rare and you gotta hang onto Gaudreau.
