If Carlson sticks on PP2, he gets knocked a bit, but it all depends if Shattenkirk gels with the idea he’s not the PPQB anymore. Someone who watched last nights game might have more insight on this.

Yandle going to NYR is something that comes to mind when PP-Dmen go to a new team. It takes a bit of time to get used to a new role. If Shattenkirk gels instantly, Carlson sticks on PP2 and gets a knock in points. If Shat doesn’t gel, he might get knocked to PP2 and Carlson back to PP1, or Niskanen to PP1 again.

Last night was mostly Shattenkirk as the lone guy on the 1st unit. Carlson did get a shift with Shattenkirk on a PP, and got a point there. Seems like they are giving the keys to Shattenkirk for the most part. Shattenkirk is on the ice with Ovy this morning doing PP drills.

Thanks, did he look comfortable not having the puck on his stick, was he holding onto the puck long? From when I watched Carlson run that PP, he was either teeing it up for Ovi or shooting it, he rarely controlled the puck for more than a couple of seconds.

There's going to be an adjustment from the PP set-up in St. Louis. Firstly, Shattenkirk is going to learn that he's not going to be the guy the PP runs through, it's Backstrom. But as the point man on that PP, he'll pick up his share of "cheap points", from just touching the puck.

Last night, he looked good. He seemed to try to get the puck on net whenever he could, though Shattenkirk isn't known necessarily for having a big shot. But getting the puck on net, through traffic is an asset in and of itself. It's something that I think Burns is the best in the league at.
