They were debating Brad Marchand on this week’s spitting chicklets which honestly, I don’t think he’s a Hall of Famer.

Here’s some names including Marchand that some have on the cusp, which I think are all behind Perry for the HOF. Perry has a cup, a Hart, rocket and two gold medals.

    Marchand.
    Giroux
    Tavares
    Backstrom
    12 Team Keep 5 (2 F, 1 D, 1 G, 1 Any) G,A,PTS,PPP,SOG,HITS,PIMS,W,GAA and Sv%.

    F: Kucherov, K.Connor, J. Hughes,, J.Guentzel, A.Svechnikov,
    D: Q. Hughes,
    G:Bobrovsky

    Marchand Awards:

    International:
1x World Cup of Hockey Gold
    2x World Junior Championship Gold
    1x U17 Hockey Challenge Bronze
    1x World Championship Gold

    NHL:
    1x Stanley Cup
    2x NHL ASG
    2x 1st All-Star Team
    2x 2nd All-Star Team
Most suspensions in NHL History (8)
1 of 124 players to record 100+points in a year

    Bruins:
Most OT Goals in Bruins history (16)
Most Shorthanded goals in Bruins history (31)
Most Goals in playoff elimination games in Bruins History (10)

He'll hit 1,000points likely, 1,000games too. 1,000pts puts him as 98th in points all time, and he'll be like top 75 in gp likely. Somewhere in that 75-100 range.

Marchand's eligibility might lay on him being very active off ice during retirement to promote the game.
    12 Team, H2H, Keep 6 (in Bold)
G, A, Pts, PPP, FW, SOG, Hits, Blocks
W, Saves, S%, GAA, Game Started
    2C, 2LW, 2RW, 4D, 1Util, 2G, 5BN, 2IR, 1IR+, 1NA

    C: Horvat, Trocheck
LW: J. Robertson, Byfield (C), Guenther
RW: Pavelski (C), Giroux (C), Svechnikov (LW)
D: Fox, Makar, Bouchard, Morrissey, Gudas
    Util: Meier (LW, RW)
    G: Oettinger, Georgiev, Samsonov, Woll

Presuming Perry doesn't get another contract, he'll retire with less than 500 goals and less than 900 points. Rocket and Hart in one of the weakest years imaginable, was a bit part on the cup team, and the gold medals don't really bolster his case given the teams that won those and the role he played. Marchand is going to finish his career with a stronger case but also shouldn't get in. Backstrom probably has a stronger case than both but who knows. I could see them inducting him with Ovechkin because they were a duo. Claude Giroux and John Tavares are also borderline, but given they're Canadian and played in TOR/OTT they're pretty much guaranteed, even if Giroux was just at the end of his career.

The first inductees were in 1945. In 2025 (80yr anniversary) they should introduce an exclusive section of the HOF where it's like the actual Hall of Famers.

Like top 20 players of all time get a gold jacket or something. And then going forward only the Crosby's and Ovechkin's of the future get in. Like 1st yr ballot's aren't guaranteed to get in to this Gold Hall of Fame. Like Brodeur might be the last guy who would get this jacket and he was inducted in 2018.

That would fix a lot of what's happening. You can't go back and remove like Kevin Lowe, but you can make his induction mean less than Brodeur's.

This would never happen because it would hurt someone's feelings. And we all know hockey players are the toughest people in the world until someone's feelings might get hurt.
