Re: Laine helped off after massive hit
I'm surprised there's so much talk on this board about Schiefele's pass. It's a perfectly ok pass to make when breaking out of the zone with the speed they had going. What was unusual about the circumstances was McCabe was completely out of position being on the wrong side of centre and that large a gap between him and his defence partner with that much speed coming up the ice.
It worked out for McCabe but if you watch the replays you'll see Ristolainen (?) had backed over centre anticipating the rush up the ice. That's the position you'd expect the Sabres defender to be in, not wandering around in no-man's land at centre ice. Nobody exiting the defensive zone and making or receiving a pass up ice would expect the opposing defenceman (McCabe) to be in that position. Laine got belted with a clean hit but just because the hit was clean doesn't mean that someone else (the guy making the pass) is to blame. It's a fast game. Some events happen that can't be avoided and result in a guy being hurt. In normal life they're called accidents.
