The population of the City of Las Vegas is 584,000, the Metropolitan Population is something like 1.9mill (maybe 2mill with newer numbers). Tourists make up 110,000people/day, Casino Employment is up around 100,500 employees at the casino’s. You add up lets say food, clubs, and other stuff, make a simple guess of 200k people work on the Strip area.
2mill residents, 200k employees, 200k/3 (8hrs*3shifts=24hrs), or too make it easier because peak Casino hrs could be the same time as a hockey game so 200k/2, 100 thousands employees out of 2mill residents working at the same time as a hockey game.
This is where I got the employee data http://gaming.unlv.edu/reports/lvstrip_emp.pdf

^ 100,500 workers rounded to 200k was a big round lol. But still shows only about 10% of the Metro of LV works there, and even less when there would be a hockey game on

If I ( a hockey fan) am going to Vegas it's not to watch a hockey game. And I wonder how many non-hockey fans want to invest 2 1/2 hours watching a game at the rink.
Sure I can see corporate boxes entertaining clients at games and local residents who may become fans over time but I'm really curious how attendance is going to play out.
The Coyotes at least have the snowbirds from Canada who were already fans.
Ahh... but here's the bestest idea... Got a hockey pool with guys from various locations? What better place to meet up? And you can also catch a game now too.

I'm well aware of that, Captain Obvious.
There are a ton of people in L.A. Really crappy sports town given it's size. Same with Miami.
People just don't go to Vegas to take in a hockey game.
There have been "lots of people living there" for quite some time now. And it's only now that a major professional sports league is sticking its toe in the water. And its the NHL, a "We'll grab the franchise fee and worry about the rest later" league if there ever was one.
That should give you pause, because there's no question that its given the other leagues pause up to this point.
If the Raiders make good on their threat to move there, the Knights will really be screwed.
