So Hossa's contract goes down to a measly 1 million next season and beyond...anybody think he will be able to keep his production at a high enough rate to justify owning him in the future? He could be an amazing bargain even if he gets to like 50 pts.

I'm actually wondering if he'll decide to call it a career this summer.

Ya, my thinking too. I know he's not a ''selfish'' player would decide not to play as hard because it's a 1M contract, but then again, what else does he need to prove? Either way, if he decides to play, even if he nets 40 points, he's a bargain for that price (minus his cap hit).

He's definitely on my radar for next year but I agree with the others that he may call it quits after this year (and if the Hawks win the Cup, then it's clear he retires).

If Hossa decides he doesn't want to play anymore, he needs to get injured so that the Blackhawks can place him on LTIR for the remainder of his contract. If he just retires after this season, the Blackhawks would be hit with $4.275M cap recapture penalty for the next 4 years. More information can be found for example from here: http://www.secondcityhockey.com/2016...etirement-ltir

With the way he's playing right now why would he want to retire?

I'm finding him super hard to read because with the way he's producing it feels like the Hossa from 10 years ago.

As a Hossa owner who has to pay his AAV of 5.275 million each year I am praying each and every day that he retires this summer. Sure he is great now, and I am loving it, but when he is not it is a huge cost that no one in my league wants to trade for. The buyout on his contract is nasty too.

Unfortunately for all of us I read an article in the Hockey News this September that talks about him wanting to play for another 5 years. Ugh. Maybe he will change his mind.
