I think they stuck Mogilny in the AHL because he sucked. The next year he was on IR and thus the Devils could exceed the cap by the amount of his cap hit.

But the old news reports stated that he was sent to the minors to clear cap room for Elias\' return.

But that doesn\'t explain the over-35 contract situation.

He was put on LTI, but that was for the following season.
