    Default Savard v Bryzgalov/Horton

Would you pull the trigger on this? My team is in the sig.

Bryzgalov is definitely an upgrade over Garon, and I can then offer Garon up with maybe Enstrom for some return (we only get to keep 2 goalies so otherwise I would lose Garon next week).

My concern is that, despite all the firepower in my lineup, I might have a tough time with DiPietro and Bryzgalov, having weak teams at present. That said, both of them will play upwards of 70 games and should have pretty solid save percentages, and perhaps even 30 wins each which wouldn\'t be bad.

My thought is to try to get another draft pick out of him given the superstar status of Savard, but honestly I think this is a pretty fair trade under the circumstances and Horton\'s goalscoring capability at center adds another interesting dimension.

I\'d do it. You are dealing from a position of strength (C) for a weakness (G). Horton isn\'t chopped liver either.

I really like Phoenix and Bryzgalov is going to put up top 10 goalie numbers. I\'d hold on to Garon - think he is pretty underrated.

I think the deal is good for you - I am interested in your statement that you will lose Garon next week anyway. How is that?

Thanks Shoeless, Angus, for your replies.

Next Monday is our keeper deadline, and we only keep 2 goalies, so with Bryzgalov and DiPietro already in the mix,I will have to drop Garon unless I can get a trade made in the interim.

I have some great ideas on that front to trade either Garon (for probably minimal value given that he\'s so under the radar) or more importantly DiPietro, since he\'s a known commodity.

I may be able to get Stastny or Richards and a 1st rounder (7th overall) for DiPietro, leaving me with Bryzgalov and Garon, would you do it? I have a feeling the answer will be yes given the return...

I\'m like both of you though, I really like this deal, get value for Savard now, add the goal scoring of Horton that Savard, as good as he is, can\'t match, get Bryzgalov who I think as soon as this year will move into the top 8 in the NHL goaltender list (ahead of guys like Miller, Turco, etc). I\'m also like you in that I like Garon, so I\'d like to do everything I can to keep him.

Thanks to both of you again.

Ahh got it. Yeah if you can cook the deal on Dipietro I would. I can\'t see him being a fantasy stud anytime soon and if things go as they appear they will in Edmonton then Garon is likely a better keep anyway.

Thanks Shoeless, your help and that of the other contributors on this forum is always invaluable.

I just pulled the trigger on the deal, but managed to get a 3rd rounder out of him as well which will come in very handy (could get me a solid prospect or a good veteran).

So in the past week I have now made the following aggregate trades:

Savard / Havlat / Higgins / Backstrom (MIN)
    for
    Getzlaf / Horton / Bryzgalov / Garon / Stempniak / 1st (6th overall) / 3rd (33rd overall)

The 1st (6th) should net me Turris, Filatov or Giroux, or a solid 3rd goalie (e.g., Legace or Conklin).

Havlat and Higgins were on my drop list anyway, and I eliminate the perennial Havlat injury watch (that sound you hear is the sighing of relief...).

Strengthen C considerably, and G moderately, plus add a few very important draft picks.

I\'d say it worked out ok!

I\'d move DiPietro - top ten talent but his team is awful with no end in sight.

The Oilers are on the upswing.

How did you manage to turn any of those assets into Getzlaf? Nice work.

Getzlaf was a complete surprise. I had put out feelers but wasn\'t expecting to get him. The guy had Huet / Garon and clearly he felt (and I agree) that Niky backstrom would be a big upgrade, and he also valued Higgins highly and was willing to take a risk on Havlat (there is always someone...). In the end, I get Getzlaf/Filatov/Garon for basically Backstrom since I was dropping Havlat/Higgins anyway. This one was a homerun, especially once I picked up Bryzgalov and Horton - Savard became Getzlaf/Horton, Backstrom became Bryzgalov/Garon, and got Filatov/Stempniak for droppers.

This makes up for my one big blunder last year, getting greedy for immediate success and trading Perry/Backstrom(WSH) for StLouis/Kaberle, oh boy...

meh, you win some you lose some.

I made my share of bad deals (especially last year) that really cost me. I moved Getzlaf for Backstrom (MIN) and then Harding proceeded to start most of the games... can\'t win em all.
