It’s not even like Bozak’s contract is bad lol. Andersen’s might be the worse right now because of uncertainty.
It really sucks for Lupul because it’s injuries that took his career, but he also seems like the guy who doesn’t train to stay healthy, but to just be big. So the injuries could have been a result of not taking his workouts/health seriously.
Just seems like he wouldn’t be the person to change his health drastically (diet, workouts, stretching) if it added a few games. He would just say eff it, not worth it.

They were just doing the inevitable. Just to get it out of the way.
A little more clarity surfaced regarding Lupul's departure from Toronto. Basically, yeah, he was quietly told to get lost, and he didn't have the confidence to fight them over it.
My favourite quote is about Kessel "he'd rather play ping pong than workout, can you blame him?"
Um, yeah! If you're making 8 million dollars to play a game you love, I think you owe it to your fans and the organization to be the best professional you can be. Plenty of time in the summer for ping pong and video games.
Don't get me wrong, I like Kessel a lot, but I can understand why GMs and teammates get frustrated with him. He's a unique talent, sure, but I wouldn't want him around my young guys if I was running a team.

Lacked confidence one year had enough to try and tackle them the next and fails an NHLPA physical.
One thing Lupul has never lacked was confidence. He's nothing more than upset with the situation in my eyes
There's a really weird grey area when it comes to who is cleared to play and who isn't. Players are regularly allowed to go with concussions, broken bones, bad backs, etc. They're also regularly putting off surgery to keep playing. Then there's situations like the Chara jaw injury. Or the Hossa skin condition that was with him for a while until he decided he had enough.
There's no firm line. It's case by case. That's where a lot of the skepticism comes from. When there's subjectivity then of course other factors creep in, including whether or not the team and/or player want to move forward.
