Default Brassard Vs Couturier Vs Hertl

Well we have to make our roster cut offs soon and with me having Gaudreau and H. Lindholm as RFA with only 6 million left in my cap space I am guess I will be having to drop or trade a few good pieces. So as the title says I am stuck between Brassard (5 million) Couturier (4.333 milion) and Hertl (3 million) as possible drops/trade away for salary cap to pay for Gaudreau. Lindholm I may drop as defenseman get points but also .1 for blocked shots and hits and there are cheaper defensemen I can grab.

I like all three players but wanted to see how you guys would rate them in a points only league format for forwards. Here is my full roster list and my drop list so far. I have about 6.6 in cap space with 1-2 d spots left to fill

    Forwards:

    P. Kane Chicago $10,500,000.00
    T. Hertl San Jose $3,000,000.00
    S. Couturier Philadelphia $4,333,000.00
    E. Haula Minnesota $1,000,000.00
    M. Pacioretty Montreal $4,500,000.00
    T. Johnson Tampa Bay $3,333,000.00
    D. Brassard Ottawa $5,000,000.00
    B. Jenner Columbus $2,900,000.00
    J. Benn Dallas $5,250,000.00
    J. Gaudreau Calgary RFA
    W. Simmonds Philadelphia $3,975,000.00
    T. Tatar Detroit $2,750,000.00

    Defense:
    R. Pulock NY Islanders $833,000.00
    A. Larsson Edmonton $4,167,000.00
    J. Manson Anaheim $825,000.00
    H. Lindholm Anaheim RFA
    D. Severson New Jersey 600,000

    Goalies:

    P. Rinne Nashville $7,000,000.00
    T. Rask Boston $7,000,000.00

    Drop list:

    B. Orpik
    S. Despres
    [I]12 Team Salary Cap Keeper:
    Fowards: Points Only
Defenseman: Points & .1 points for hits and BS
Goalies: 2 pts for win & 3 pts for shutout.

Brassard would be my drop. The salary doesn't make up the difference.
Hertl is by far the top here.

I'd say Hertl>Brassard>Couturier in terms of keepers.

Any way you could make a move to swap one of your tenders for another starter who's cheaper but will net you similar win numbers? Dubnyk, Talbot, or Jones are all more than 2mil cheaper. Might be able to upgrade on one of your drops as well.

Sadly its doubtful as cheap goalies are gold in this league and often requires a kings ransom to get. I have thought about trying to get crawford as one option as his owner does need to move him this year.

As for free agents the biggest goalies that is cheaper then rinne or rask is varlamov at 5.9 million but his band aid boy status is always a problem.

Agree with Ingolo re the order of keepers.... Depending what Lindholm gets I wouldn't be adverse to keeping him over Larsson and seeing what is out their for trade for the Oilers d man.. Lot of love for him rout there right now

I would try and move Brassard and Larsson. People are often enamored with players entering a new situation.

I would consider very strongly hanging on to Lindholm as there is not necessarily much in the way of potential offense from your D men.

And even though it may prove fruitless I would look at a potential trade of one of your G's maybe with the sweetener of Lindholm added into the negotiations. Obviously you'd be looking at teams well below the cap if any such exist but until such time as your deadline arrives I would have a trade block up and rattle some cages.

I think Brassard is the best option from those three in your format and he would be who I'd be keeping. Not only is he the best option for points, he throws a lot of hits.

I'd probably drop Couturier if it was my choice.

Just to clarify forwards in our league are points only. Only defenseman get counts for hits and block shots. But thanks Axe and everyone for your opinions this far. Greatly helping me as I am trying to work the phones so to speak. It's not easy as most of the teams at the moment are either over the cap or just below it but that will change once everyone submits their dropped lists before season draft.

I am toying with the idea of keeping all three and try to make a trade during the draft possibly using one of the three to get a few draft picks as I don't have picks in the 1st or 2nd round at the moment and with some prospects still on the board, like Matt Murray and Sebation Aho, I want to see if I can grab them.

Interestingly enough I just got an offer that has brassard in it but has me moving other players.

    The offer is:

    Brassard
    J. Benn
    P. Rinne

    for
    Schiefele
    N. Backstrom
    J. Quick

I hate to lose Benn given he has one more year at 5.25 million but after this year at 9.5million I wouldn't be able to keep him. With the trade I improve my goalie and I get a nice youngster with backstrom who is good for 75 points and I get some value for brassard. Of course this adds 1.3 million to my cap. Think its worth it?

im not a quick fan but I do like this deal

yed you lose Benn, but if you can't keep him past this season Backstrom is a nice piece to swap him out for, Scheifele is a buy low (though lots of hype) v Brassard and I think this is one of the last Windows to shop Rinne - thoigh I think there is some bounce back he showed cracks last season

I agree with Sulla's point. You're winning 2/3 of this deal, and the downgrade from Benn to Backstrom isn't too far as to not be balanced out by the other bits. Plus if you couldn't keep Benn anyways, you might as well get something for him.
If the 1.3mil for this season isn't too big of a bump on you, then I would do it.
