I don't understand these Subban rumours. Why would Montreal want to trade not only one of the best d-men in the league, but also a great ambassador? Yes his contract's AAV is $9M, but he's in his prime and the deal runs out when he's only 32. You just can't replace this type of player.

And I certainly wouldn't be pitching him to Vancouver, for God's sake.

if subban will be traded, I think the only team that would have what it takes is Edmonton. going through the entire canuck system, I can't see them having anywhere near enough. we all know the habs want dubois, but obviously that wouldn't be enough for subban, and what else of real quality could the canucks offer? no star prospects, only one really good young forward (horvat). the oilers have taylor hall - that's better than anything the canucks have right there. plus, they could swap 4 for 9, and I could see the habs being okay with that. although, I don't know if the oilers would trade hall and pass up the chance to get tkachuk.

Oh I agree that he misspoke. And I believe Pierre did the same using a common slang for the at the time out of the blue pick. I just find it funny both instances included Montreal (I'm sure there's plenty more).

I don't think the stars have the need. they're looking at a future top 4 of klingberg, honka, Lindell and johns, and I think they're more than happy with that. they've got a big mess in net, so I don't see how they take a huge contract like subban's. plus, in one more year they'll have to pay benn big time.

This is true, but they're ready to go now, and I'm not sure Lindell and Honka are quite ready to make that leap. Johns looked super last year but that's still a lot to ask of him. Keep in mind that the Stars are also losing a lot of veteran presence on the blue line.

Benning is a dumb*ss.

Even if he had the pieces to get Subban (which he clearly does not have imo), I'm pretty sure that these public comments are driving other GMs nuts, not only Bergevin. Serious and credible negotiations wouldn't be out in the open like that.
