Demers makes sense. Lucic, a little less considering their roster situation.
Demers has the connection with Todd M. from their time in SJ together too.

Frankly, I would think signing Lucic before they move out someone else puts Chiarelli at a strategic disadvantage.

If he follows through with that move, potential trade partners will know that he has to move pieces out which is not the position that he wants to be in. It moves his status up a rung or two from seller to desperate seller.

Edmonton has 7.5mill in cap. They don’t have to move anyone out right away.

Agreed. Ideally Chiarelli would move out a body or two before July 1st. That being said Lucic is not going to wait around to sign so if the Oilers are sold on signing Lucic it will happen at noon on July 1st and the rest of the chips will fall where they may.

My remarks were not in reference to the cap, but rather the makeup of the team. They don't need more forwards, they need D, and if I know that then so does everyone else.

What are they going to do with Lucic if they don't move someone else out?

I think a Lucic signing spells the end of the line for Hall with the Oilers, which makes me very sad. Just my opinion but it won't surprise me at all.

I'd tend to agree with this.

I think bringing on board Lucic for only cap space more than makes up for a little less trade leverage. Everyone knows he is desperate for Dmen anyway.

Sure. But right now he just has that need, to bring a high-end D in. That's a tall order in itself. Sign Lucic and now they're in a position that they have to move someone out.

They already have Puljujarvii to deal with, which I'll bet they weren't planning on a week ago. That forward situation there is becoming SRO pretty quickly.

When you have options, you're in a better position to decide your own fate.

This appears to be a done deal. He's apparently signed, though can't be official until Friday

I think if they can keep it under $6 (can they?) it will be good. I don't see the term being below six years though. My guess is 6x$6.5=$39million

And I don't think Hall is going anywhere. RNH and Yakupov almost certainly. Eberle possibly.

6x5.5 would be good. 6x6 would be fine. 6x6.5 or more seems high, but is probably realistic.

With Lucic - that's going be over 17.5 on LW. Chiarelli is going to known for shipping out Hall and Seguin - and we know how the Seguin deal worked out
