Making the cap work would require some interesting maneuvering.
Darren Dreger got this one out...
The NYR have a glaring hole on D and they want to get rid of the big man. I think he would look great with Getz and Perry!

I don't think Nash is ideal for them but they're getting desperate so you never know.

Maybe for Fowler if the Ducks can dump Stoner somewhere too?

Next they're going to be signing E. Staal to play with Nash.

(No I don't have a hockey problem...)
glaring hole ? Sorry I do not see one.
Can they improve ? sure everyone can but a glaring one ?
Jeff Gorton has his work cut out for him no doubt about that
I half expect to see Kevin Klein gone but despite a lot of press on NY defensive woes, they are still pretty solid on the back end and have a couple of decent kids who can step in and play some big minutes.
Much more concerned with AV's propensity to ride the big boys into exhaustion by playoff time but that is about coaching not a lack of talent. The big 3 or 4 if you count Klein finally had an offseason to heal up after playing a boatload of playoff hockey over the last 3+ seasons
Consider Sim Hockey because guys who play shutdown minutes, deflect shots and clear creases build championships. Yet in fantasy they litter the unwanted UFA lists.
What they have now on D:
Girardi at 5,5/year until 19-20 == I don't hate him but he soon will decline and won't be worth his salary
M.Staal at 5,7 until 20-21== I'm not a big fan of his game
Mcdonagh is the real deal if he can get rid of his injury issues...
Klein at 2,9 is a good one
When you look at the top 4, where do you see the offensive side? Mcdonagh is more of a two-way guy and Klein is a bit of wild card. Other than that, I think they need a more offense-oriented D man and I think that Anaheim has a couple of guys that fit this description that might be available...
I don't really see this one making sense for the Rangers.
They've currently got themselves locked into three D for protection: M.Staal, Girardi, McDonagh.
They are already going to lose Klein.
Maybe they are thinking like CBJ... realizing if they are going to lose one... then they might as well get a 2nd (Fowler?) and still lose just one.
Or, they could find some way to keep Klein... which I think is the better tact.
I slightly see Nash being a fit there - did he once fill that wing on Team Canada with Getz/Perry... good mercy that would be a BIG line, by player size.
And I disagree that NYR has glaring holes.
McIlrath & Skjei are both ready to step-in full time for departing Boyle/Yandle.
I agree with Hollywood, they lack offensive Dmen in thier system and as he pointed out, McDonaugh is their best option in that regard. Their top 2 D prospects in Skeji and McIlrath are more of the status quo to what Rangers already have....defensive D-men with little offensive upside.
