We’re not looking to move him. I did not get an inquiry from any team,” Rutherford said.
The end
If there's one thing we've learned about GMs around this time of the year, they lie like a mo-fo to the media.

Haha, having Malkjn in Chicago would be so awesome.
Don't see how it works though.... They would have to dump the entirety of Seabrook or Hossa's contracts and not re-sign like anybody else just to sort of have the cap space for him. Or move Toews/Kane and that's a nope.

Kane's cap hit is $10.5 until 2022-23. Malkin's cap hit is $9.5 until 2021-22. So the Hawks would gain a million in cap space and one year shorter contract. Kane is also two years younger than Malkin. I think that the Pens would have to sweeten the deal in order to get it done. Imagine that though. You are trading away Malkin for one other player and you are the one that has to top up the deal! Crazy to think about.
The real reason this trade will not happen is team unity and team chemistry. Each team is very pleased with how their star player fits into the team structure. When you trade him for a different player, you can never know how the team will react or if the player will fit in, both in style and personality. Its way too risky for either team to contemplate that kind of a move.
I know that some will still think there's a chance he gets traded, but thats what Rutherford said in an interview with the NHL Network today:
"Let me make this easy on everybody - we're not trading Malkin," Rutherford said.
"We've never talked about it. We don't want to do it," he added.

Malkin (9.5) + Dumoulin (0.8) for Kane (10.5) + Hjallmarsson (4.1)
10.3mill vs 14.6mill
Chicago sheds 4.3mill, moves a NMC (Hjal) out, and Pitts gets a legit D?

We’re talking about the 2015-16 MVP getting traded for the 2011-12 MVP. The last time a former MVP was traded from their team was Thornton in 2005-06. And I’m 99% sure there’s never been a trade that involves 2 former Hart winners. The trade idea is crazy in general. And I’m pretty sure the Penguins couldn’t work around the extra 4mill in cap hit unless they moved Fleury too.

I guess what I am saying is that Hammer is more untouchable than Kane. I could conceivably see the Hawks moving Kane due to their frustration with him over his the off-the-ice issues as long as they received comparable value. With the Hawks's lack of depth on the blueline, they would have to be absolutely blown away by a deal to move Hammer.
