I dont see how a trade like this benefits either team?
If the Rangers move Rick Nash (and it wouldn't surprise me to see them trying) it's to clear cap space and this type of trade doesnt help much there. Not to mention, Nash only has two years left on his deal while Ryan comes in with six left on his.
For the roughly $500K savings in cap, they might as well ride out Nash.

They dont play fantasy hockey and teams don't focus on age in the NHL like fantasy GMs do. If they were worried about their ages, they wouldn't sign them to the long term contracts that they do.
If that's your reasoning for the Rangers making this trade, you are way off.

I don’t think Ottawa would do this, Ryan always seems to be just on the brink of going from below average top line player to being a legit top line player. They just need to think, do they trust Turris will return to form to help out a healthy Ryan? Those two have never happened for the whole season ever.

Makes zero sense. Ottawa would need to include additional pieces if they ever hoped to get Nash...plus retain salary on Ryan. As Axe said, the Rangers are only entertaining the ideas of moving guys like Nash, McD, Staal and Girardi in an effort to clear cap space.

Wow this is a tough one.. I wouldn't want either guy on my team.. NYR definitely wouldn't want the 6 year commitment to Bobby Ryan..
Maybe Turris for Stepan?? Phaneuf for Klein??

I would not say its "my" reasoning, rather its a salary swap of forwards. Granted Nash has more "value" and is signed for fewer years but no harm no foul right ?Originally Posted by Axeman33

Rangers need to give up a bit more here, IMO. Or maybe the longer contract for Ryan evens that out.
But it is a trade that I don't think has any reason to happen, other than to shake things up.

I don't think Nash is going to be of much benefit for any team anymore so I can't see Ottawa ever wanting to contemplate this. I suspect that the Rangers will not be able to trade Nash.
