Axeman, I never said he will get less than $6M. I said probably more. Probably closer to $6.5M.

And he actually was pretty good defensively. One of the few Ranger Dmen who didn't let Lundqvist hang out to dry most of the time.
Actually, he had a pretty good year last year. Take a look at his last four seasons. He was pretty much on average last year. Less goals abut a lot more assists. Nothing wrong with a quiet 47 points.

He'll get 7+. Brian Campbell got over 7 back when the cap was lower and he's no Yandle.

It is possible but I think it is unlikely. There are only 5 Dmen that have a 7+M cap hit - Subban, Weber, Suter, Letang, and Campbell. Campbell is the only one that Yandle could be compared. And that was a crazy signing. Mike Green just signed for $6M. As much as I don't like Green, he is a decent comparable to Yandle. I think Yandle is a bit better and durable so he will get more like 6.5M. I think 7 would be the very upper limit of his new contract. Just my 2 cents.

Also, Yandle signed a very team friendly contact when he last signed in Arizona. He will be looking for his big payday on this next one.
I completely agree with you that Green is very inconsistent and not durable but he still has a career 0.63 points per game and even if you take out his 2 insane seasons he still around 0.55 points/gm.
2010-1: 0.49
2011-2: 0.22
2012-3: 0.74
2013-4: 0.54
2014-5: 0.63 -> signed his contract
Yandle's points/gm is right at 0.56 but you are absolutely right that consistently hits around 0.6. So, like I said, Yandle is better and will get more than Green but I just don't think he will get >1M more.
Only way he gets under 7 is if he accepts another team-friendly contract to play for a contender.

What about comparing their games played? Having a similar point per game ratio means nothing if he plays half the games. I think Yandle is worth a lot more than Green. Being an NHL defenseman is about more than scoring points. Yandle has Green crushed in all of those intangibles.
That's a huge blow if they can't resign Barrie.
I think they'll do everything they can to squeeze him in. Johnson makes $6M next year till 2023. Thats a lot for him. Another two years of Beauchemin at 4.5 is manageable. Especially after his great year.
Colorado could and should get A LOT if they do trade Barrie.
Yandle has definitely played more games and, like I said, is more consistent. And of course being an NHL defenseman is more than just points but, if you think Yandle is going to be paid based on his defensive abilities, you would be mistaken. Remember this is the guy who was left off the Olympic roster because of his defense. He is an offensive Dman just like Green. Again, I think he is better than Green and I am using Green's contract as a starting point. Green's contract is only for 3 years because of his inconsistency. Yandle will get a 5+ year deal but I think his cap hit is going to be 6.5-7M.
