OEL, Domi, whoever they pick this yr
For
Matthews and Lupul.
Figured I'd start my very first own Imagined Rumor.
Stir the isht up a bit! LOL.
Past Events:
April 30th - First Domino falls... Toronto wins NHL entry draft spot #1. They signed Kadri to a nice long contract... and many speculate Stamkos is a'comin. C1 Stamkos, C2 Kadri. So what happens with the #1 pick?
Future Events:
June 24th - Second Domino falls... "With the 1st pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, the Toronto Maple Leafs select... Auston Matthews." (by the way... where do they announce Auston to be from... ZSC Lions? or USDP?)
July 1st - Third Domino Falls.... "Bob McKenzie is reporting the Leafs will sign #91 Steven Stamkos to 7 years, $91million".
July 2nd - Fourth Domino Falls... "The Arizona Coyotes have acquired Auston Matthews from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for the Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Arizona's #7 overall pick in the 2016 entry draft and their 1st round pick in 2017."
Odds of a Matthews(TOR)/OEL(ARI) trade... ????
I'll be the odds maker...
10-1 odds: ARI/TOR trade happens (trade must incl. Matthews.)
1-12 odds: it doesn't happen
Which side you take?
How much you betting?

Oh my... now that would be incredible!!!
You should put the "and Lupul" part in brackets... maybe with font size1... light light gray.
Domi.
In the #28 sweater.
Could you imagine?
They'd sell more Domi sweaters than Stamkos sweaters!!!
(How much could the Leafs charge for a ticket rolling out a roster to include Steven Stamkos AND Max Domi!?!?)
I'd actually watch the Leafs play 50 games if they had Stamkos/OEL/Domi!
ps. Can somebody tell me the brackets to use for the image-location function? (I lost that when I disabled some of my Firefox)
I'd put $10 down on the trade happening. There just seems to be a lot of factors lining up to make it a possibility. Chayka hiring, Leafs winning lottery, Matthews being an Arizonan (when are we ever gonna see an elite talent from there again?), Leafs needing a #1 D to pair with Rielly, 2016 draft being considered deep enough to make #7 be palatable.
The composition of assets coming back to TOR might be debatable but OEL/7th overall are locks.
Here's more food for thought.
If this ridiculously interesting but unlikely blockbuster were to go down, can you see the Leafs trying to trade into #4 using Gardiner/# as bait? EDM gets another puck-moving dman and slots a bit better to pick another dman that they need, TOR gets another winger to flesh out the top 6.
I'll admit even I think this extremely unlikely but it fits a certain narrative doesn't it...

the only way i trade Matthews for OEL is if we get Stamkos.
#1C and #1D in one summer? that's how you go from rebuilding to playoffs.
Kadri would stick as the #2C, and he'd eventually have some legit top 6 wingers to play with for once instead of the crap he's had to play with most of his career.
Marner/Nylander would officially be set as wingers. JVR would likely stick with Stamkos.
All we'd need to do is beef up our D a bit after we see how Zaitsev ends up. Add a couple FA signings to complement the core and trade for one of the numerous goalies available.
fastest rebuild ever.
Soooo, do they use the 7th pick to get Alexander Nylander?

gardiner is not going to be good enough to upgrade a pick in the top 10.
and the oilers certainly don't need him, they need better defensive players. nothing wrong with gardiner as a top 4 D if he's paired with a shutdown D. on the oilers he'd be terrible

A trade post draft won't necessarily involve Arizona's #7 pick. The only way that pick is involved is if the trade happens prior to the draft or the Yotes select someone who is highly coveted by the Leafs. If it's another defenseman then yes since the Leafs are still lacking very much so in that department. If no trade happens prior to the draft, Arizona is not going to waste their pick on a player who they think may be trade bait for the Leafs. That's just terrible business. Arizona needs D more than forwards at this point as they have stockpiled forwards the last few drafts.
If anything happens, the dominos need to fall prior to the draft. You don't draft a generational talent to turn around and trade him 1-2 weeks later so that you bring in 10+M cap hit to a team that is not close to contention for a cup. This team needs to build the core up, they need Matthews more than Stamkos.
I'd put $100 on Matthews being the C in Toronto and neither OEL or Stamkos wearing a Maple Leaf
I just don't see Arizona trading OEL, a top D in the NHL with a good contract for a pick even if it's the 1st overall. I'm maybe wrong, but I would'nt do it. Arizona needs OEL.
I could see Arizona trying to move up for Tkachuk (the other Arizona boy) thought.

If I'm Arizona no way I do that, but I do inquire what it would take to nab the #4 pick. Can I get it for 2016 1/3 and 2017 2 or 2016 1, 2017 2 and a prospect?

The only way I consider trading the 1st overall is if you have Stamkos saying to the media he’s signing with Toronto, and the trade is for OEL, Domi and the 7th overall. Then with that pick, I’d just take best player available.
Leafs are log-jammed with unproven talent, so it’s not like they need to draft a certain positon. If Nylander is the best available at 7, I’ll take him there. If Tkachuck is I’ll take him.

Impressive...what did the leafs give up here? lol
All honesty though, they draft Matthews, there really is not much incentive to pickup Stamkos. You want Matthews to play Center and not pull the same crap Montreal did with Chucky by flipping him over to the wing. Kadri starts out as #1C to allow Matthews to adjust to the flow of the game and take some of the pressure off of playing against #1 pairings and top shutdown lines night in night out (at least to start).
The Coyotes have a better chance of landing the #4 from the Oilers and drafting someone who has ties almost as strong as Matthews in Tkachuk than the do getting the 1st overall from the Leafs. I don't think the Leafs want to deal it away and I don't think the Yotes want to trade away OEL. Two negatives normally make a positive, but not here.
As I say, the 4th overall will be a lot easier to acquire and they wont have to lose OEL. That makes more sense for the Coyotes. Now it's just a matter of what they chip in to flip picks with the Oilers.
