Read in a Vancouver paper that Benning said he wouldn't trade his UFAs for picks, just players/prospects. No wonder they didn't get traded.

boston is trying to make the playoffs. if these trades push their team an extra round it will be worth it. imo if they don't reach the 2nd round then these deals are a failure.


i'm not sure i can blame benning on hamhuis who doesn't seem like he wanted to leave vancouver.

everything else he bombed on though. how did he not trade hansen? his value would never be higher. the team is in desperate need of a rebuild, and he did nothing. not even a retool.

don't believe everything you read in the papers. in his post deadline interview he states he would have been happy with picks.

2 1st round picks, and a possible 2 2nd round picks this draft tho, and with the 3 1st round picks last yr still are something to be said.

Don’t quite understand giving away picks tho for rentals, especially the higher price he paid for Liles. He’s caught in pleasing the fans now and in the future. Imagine the possible haul he would have gotten for Marchand if he traded him this yr? Easily a 1st plus other things.

I think he panicked on the Liles deal after they couldnt convince Hamhuis to come east. He wanted a D and with time running out, Liles was the quick and easy decision.

Judging by how he didn't trade any of the UFAs, I think he was paying lip service after the fact. I don't think he wanted picks at all. If he was willing, some of those UFAs would be gone now.

What happened was Sweeney was so upset everyone ripped their 3 straight picks in last years draft that he traded away a majority of them so no one could make fun of his picks this year.
