New offer on the table

A GM that is currently 9th of 10 teams has offered me a deal for my Giroux. His 1st(currently 2nd overall)/Rinne/Schwartz for 5th/Giroux/Talbot. If Giroux misses significant time this could hurt me during the playoffs. In addition, the drop off between Schwartz and Giroux over the short term shouldn't be significant. Here's the kicker, I lose Giroux as my 4th keeper, but I have Kucherov or Schneider who can slide in. I'm really high on both Schneider and Kucherov. Adding the 1st for next seasons draft with the players going back in to the pool could be a big win for me.

I don't think that is enough to move Giroux. I would look for help elsewhere in case of a longer Giroux injury. Maybe move Steen or Barkov to someone rebuilding

Rinne has zero value to you, so Schwartz and his 1st is not nearly enough. Also, moving from 5th pick to 2nd is not that big a difference.

Sorry for the confusion, it's the 2nd overall pick and my late 5th rounder in play.Not sure that makes a difference or not.

The trade would have me swap Schneider or Kooch as my 4th keeper with the following players available at that #2 spot, Kucherov or Schneider, RyJo, T. Johnson, MacKinnon, Fleury to name a few. So in essence the trade would end up, Giroux for Kucherov and 1 of Schneider, RyJo, Johnson, MacK...etc. I think Kucherov is on the verge of stardom and they don't get much better than Schneider. Keeping either, at least in my mind, is not a significant difference between Giroux in the long run.

I like the deal.

It isn't sexy on paper, but when you break it down, it helps you this year, gives you a huge upgrade at the draft next year and barely impacts your overall keepers.

I just read over the other comments and I get their perspective on things (you SHOULD get more for Giroux), but considering the circumstances (I'm pretty sure the GM you are trading with is aware of the return value for both him AND you), I doubt you could get more in this particular case.

You come out a winner in this one short, medium and quite possibly long term!

Thanks for the input boys, but my trade partner forgot to pull another offer he made using Rinne so as I said I was interested the other GM accepted his offer. So while he's still interested, Rinne is gone. And realistically so is this topic.

How about having the same deal minus Rinne and have him add an extra pick (3rd rounder or even 4th)? I'm pretty sure Talbot would hurt more than help for the ROS as you are pretty set with Schneider and the Anaheim tandem. Who knows, after the deadline, you may end up with 3 starters if Andersen is moved to a team in need (i.e. Calgary perhaps)...

I was just coming on here to present the same thing. I thought his 1st(2nd overall)/3rd(22nd overall)/Schwartz for Giroux/5th rounder/18th rounder. Won't help me or hurt me for the run but sets me up nicely for the draft. Plus there's still a slim chance I get Steen back for my playoff run, but that may also hurt Schwartz's value as well.

I'm thinking since both will be in the top-6, it should not hurt to have either player (or both).

Still nothing on Giroux, I'll wait until this weekend to send him a feeler. Hopefully by then I get some insight on his health. I believe a healthy Giroux can win a week for me so I need to balance out next year and my playoffs this year. I could also revisit this over the summer if Giroux does indeed come back.
