Marc Andre Bergeron played 490 games at the NHL level scoring at a 40 point pace.

Ghost has played 38 games in the league.

Far too early to say I am wrong just because of a hot streak in his rookie year.

I expect Ghost to improve five on five, but saying he isn't a PP specialist at this point is wrong.

and no, nobody is as good as MAB on these boards.

Ghost is nothing like MAB. That's an awful comparison. They don't skate, shoot, pass, defend, or do anything similar whatsoever. Practically opposite styles of play.
Ghost is definitely a PP specialist in the sense that he's awesome at QBing a PP, but there is more to his game.

And I agree that there is probably nobody on these boards as good as MAB.... but hey, you never know who's hiding under these usernames....

Might be the case, but he's too reliant on PP production at the moment.

Mostly all of his goals have come on the PP and in 3 on 3.

True, but there's two sides to that coin. Not many rookie defensemen have the poise to play in those situations. Honestly other than Ekblad/Klingberg I can't think of one rookie dman in the last few years who has stepped into such a prominent role right off the bat.

He may not be a top 5 or 10 dman in the league, but no way I trade him for Parayko and Provorov right now. I think it was Le Trefle that mentioned trading Ghost for Weber. That is selling high properly.

He has 11 goals, of which just 6 are PPG. That's not what I would call "MOSTLY ALL" of his goals

I believe at least 2 goals were OT (3 on 3) too though.

He's better than MAB but probably won't ever be more than a #4 even strength dman on a good team but that's not too shabby, especially if you can feed him those offensive zone face-offs.

Why is that? Rafalski, Visnovsky, Gonchar, Schneider, Shattenkirk, and players of that ilk have all improved their defensive play with experience. Heck, look at Karlsson - he was a classic riverboat gambler his first 2 years in the league, made a bunch of mistakes and looked silly at times. To the Sens credit, they allowed him to learn on the job and he improved his defensive play quite a bit. Now, I'd go as far as saying that Karlsson is actually pretty damn good defensively. Ghost doesn't even have 50 NHL games under his belt and we're already branding him a "MAB" or "PP specialist"... as if he can't improve his defense? I think that's pretty negative lol. He's already doing impressive things in the league as a rookie, I think it's logical that he'll improve his overall game, not stay stagnant or regress. If Ghost ends up the 4th best D-MAN on his team it'll be because Provorov, Sanheim and Morin end up pretty special.

Maybe 4th best was a bit pessimistic. I'll explain why I said that:

    1. It was meant to mean from a strictly even strength, 2-way perspective. So he'd need to become someone you essentially never have to worry about when it comes to match ups or defensive zone face-offs to be a "top 3" guy on his team in that sense.
    2. This was also under the assumption he was on a good team, with a good blue line. This is probably unfair because only a handful of teams have a defines where you can say they have:
A true number 1 (definitely less than 30 of these in the league)
A quality #2 (lets define this as a guy who can either play sidekick to an elite top pairing, or anchor a very good 2nd pairing, and likely has at least some offense to his game i.e. Seabrook, Vlasic)
Then an ideal #3 would be someone like Hjamarsson.

Ok I was thinking way too much in the Blackhawks mould here. He could def be a #3 on a quality team.

A thorough breakdown on Ghost by Kevin Weekes and Scott Stevens. They discuss the good and bad of his game.

Needless to say, there's a lot more praise. Stevens even states he feels Gostisbehere is the best defenseman in the NHL (right now) at getting the shot through.

This is a great watch: https://www.nhl.com/video/nhl-tonigh...708/c-41502703

And Weekes is 100% correct - Ghost's arrival completely changed the Flyers for the better.

Great video fungchen3. When a hall of fame defender like Steven's lauds compliments like this it is high praise in deed. Stevens recognizes that Ghost needs some work on his defensive game but also recognizes with his incredible skill set it will only be a matter of time before he gets all aspects of his game to the same high level.
