VETO? Stastny & Lecavalier for Ovechkin

Hi everyone,
First post but long time lurker on Dobber. The following trade just got accepted in the league in my sig:

15th place team gets Stastny & Lecavalier
8th place team get Ovechkin

16 team league. Thoughts? Thanks guys,

1st - welcome to the forums!

2nd - sounds unfortunate that this kind of trade happens.
The majority of people on these forums are anti-veto... which I think is unfortunate... because a trade like this REEKS.
The Anti-Veto crowd likes to say "No collusion. No veto." This is what they do. Which I hate.
The big problem, of course, is that one has to PROVE collusion, which can be really difficult.

Would I veto this?
Likely. 99% likely.
Context and settings are always important.
Maybe it's a 3-category league and two of them are FOW and Assists... could be... (probably not).

One year league, eh?
Money pool? (Probably).
And one team is in 15th place... so they are basically bowing out and shipping their top player to another team.
I'll also guess that maybe it's a H2H league... which means anybody that sneaks into the H2H playoffs (top 6? top 8?) can win the big championship!!!
True? Is it H2H?

My favourite rule for trades in all leagues is this:
*All trades may be voted on by all non-trading teams
*75% veto can overturn any trade
*All trade-opinions (veto or not veto) must be made public.

In a good league, everybody should man up and publicly state whether they believe a trade is fair or not.

Signature says Keep 6 and you posted in a one year league forum? Different thoughts on if this is a one year or keeper league.

I would say in a one year league this trade stinks of tanking/helping a buddy. However, I do not think OVI alone could pull Mr. 8th place into contention?

It's actually a keeper league (first year of this league - keep six players), sorry if I posted in the wrong trade area. Did I mention the two parties involved in the trade are brothers!

A bad trade in a one-year league.

I brutal trade in a keeper league. Not that this needs explanation but Lecavalier has said he's retiring Statsny for Ovy? I don't think so.

I'd be demanding a veto or finding another league after season's end.

1. Yup, wrong forum.

2. Brothers, eh... you should've left that out (I would've even guessed as much!!!)... just so the "No collusion, no veto" crowd could show up and have to hold with their opinion to say... "Well, the trade has to stand if there's no proven collusion". Then later, you could've said "Oh - and they are brothers", and we might finally (FINALLY!) have some of the anti-veto folk realize how foolish and pretentious their opinions are. (sorry, I get riled up over this). [#InternalForumPoliticalWarOnVetoUse]

3. I've been in your shoes, man. Others on these forums have not. It's unfortunate that sometimes people have to be on the 3rd-side (the non-trading teams vantage) and get burned really bad before they realize how important a VETO-vote is to the integrity of a league.

I am this guy for sure. But simple logic proves collusion here. Stastny and Vinny are not keepers (Maybe Stastny, but I doubt it). OV is a top 3 player in this setup.

So the last place team moves the best keeper player in the league for non keeper scraps?

I almost never say this, but....... VETO!!!!

If they're brothers, I'd totally veto it. It's ridiculously unfair and the one guy is definitely just helping the other brother

I emailed our league about this silliness. I've offered way more (better players + future draft picks) for Ovie and have been told don't bother, he's untouchable. I guess not.

Oh, and did I mention the brother getting Ovie is the commissioner of our league!

BUt they're now saying that this one... this one is OK... to veto.

But... let's pretend for a minute that the OP hadn't revealed that these guys were brothers.

Man, you're killing me here.
I've been waiting for this specific case for YEARS... for somebody else to have it happen to them.... so the Anti-Veto crowd could understand why vetoes are required.
