Canucks' Chris Higgins: No longer with team
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com
(2 hrs ago) Higgins is no longer with the Canucks, and won't play as the team explores options trading him, Jason Botchford of the Vancouver Province reports.
Higgins will not play to avoid an injury that could potentially compromise a trade elsewhere. The Canucks are looking to get some younger bodies consistent playing time, making the veteran winger an expendable asset. As a result, he will now await a trade elsewhere, though it's unclear whether he will end up in the NHL or the AHL.

edit - Higgins not Higgens - my mistake in the title.

I don't think Higgins gets much interest. Just three points all year. I see this as the Canucks trying to get the roster's attention but this really strikes me as them dipping their toes in the water instead of jumping in.

ya I don't think he gets much interest but I do believe they are making room for youth, they don't have a choice. Etem can't play much worse than Higgens has this year.
If you look at how much Willie plays Vey - I think Etem gets a good look.

Higgins can be waived/demoted to make space for a younger guy.

Yup - I am guessing this is a last ditch attempt to try and trade him and goes on Waivers tomorrow.

I don't really see why a team would want him…much less trade for him

Bergevin will get him for Smith-Pelley.....just his kind of trades to add another 4th Line player....

I thought that about Nick Jensen as well.

If Clarkson and someone who works for the Player Safety Division can be traded, anyone can.

Sure, but a deal like that won't clear a spot for a young player like the Canucks want.
