The second contract is dead, thanks to Kevin Lowe. Every single young RFA (besides Parise) is getting overpaid a bit by their current level.

Meszaros is not a 5 million dollar defenseman, but he is close. He hasn\'t missed a single game in three seasons, he has been productive, and he has upside. You have to pay a bit of a premium on an offer-sheet anyway.

OTT shouldn\'t match; they don\'t have the cap going into the future. If they match this, they will not be able to compete for anything for the next 3 or so years barring trading away one of the big 3 forwards. Take the draft picks and run.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but this team missed the boat, and now should look at a partial rebuild. They still have the big 3, but not much else, and this team won\'t contend again for quite some time.

Just becuase Toronto and Atlanta were dumb and threw too much money at those players, doesn\'t mean Murray and Ottawa should overpay for their players. Take the picks Murray, I hope it is over $5,231,246 Million and they get 2 1st Rounders instead of just one to go along with the 2nd and 3rd.

Also to correct FZ, Vancouver didn\'t trade their 3rd for Bernier, it was LA\'s 3rd.

Ya, you are right, he could have. But, then Meszarsos would have been unhappy with the contract and gone to the KHL for nothing like Radulov did with Nashville. At least this way Murray and the Sens get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounder. Lots of cap room to do other mover now as well.

Anyway, I am still skeptical that an offer sheet was even signed. Plus, I have my Sens blinders on (which I am sure you have noticed)!
