Semin's Contract
I am a commissioner in a salary cap league. With Semin being waived and then the team and player mutually agreeing to termination of his contract, does this mean he no longer, in any form, counts against the Montreal Canadiens salary cap? Just trying to decide if the GM who owns him can drop him and his contract from his team or does he have to retain his rights in the farm.
Any info would be great.

He'll be playing in Russia not if but when he clears waivers so you should be able to cut the guy some slack.

Alex Semin no longer has an NHL contract so he no longer counts against the salary cap for the Montreal Canadiens. What happens in your league is going to be based on what your league rules state.
In my 30 team dynasty, our rules state that any player who loses his NHL contract during a season will be retained by the team that has him until the following off-season. If a player is bought out/contract terminated during the off-season then the team that owns his rights loses his rights in the off-season.
If you don't have a rule for this, I would lean towards allowing the team to drop him during the season but that is just my opinion.

In the NHL, Semin doesn't have a contract and he doesn't count against the cap

I assume you mean 'from the defensive zone (or offensive zone) to the neutral zone' because if you mean o-zone to d-zone (or vice versa) then this saga is far from over...Originally Posted by ericdaoust

Update:
The team was allowed to drop Semin and gain a valuable roster spot. He also had to continue to pay 50% of his salary which is only 550k. The great thing about this is the GM actually thought it was a fair ruling and was happy with my decision. Something that does not always happen as many commissioners will know.
