Feel-Good TBL Story.
\"David Carle, 18, was ranked as a second-round prospect in 2008 by NHL Central Scouting and was ready to follow his older brother, Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Matt Carle, to the NHL. But during the NHL\'s Scouting Combine this past summer, Carle the younger was found to have an abnormal heart condition and, after consulting with specialists, was advised to quit hockey.
In layman\'s terms, Carle\'s heart can\'t handle too much exertion. He can no longer play high-level hockey and he\'s lucky the condition was discovered when it was.
But in a classy move, the Lightning used its final pick, No. 203 overall, to select Carle so his dream of being drafted could be fulfilled.
Now, in another feel-good move announced this week, Carle has been named a student assistant coach at the University of Denver, which will also honor his scholarship.
Kudos to both the Lightning and to Denver for making the best of a bad situation. They\'ve added a silver lining to a dark cloud.\"
Showing there IS life behind hockey execs, and that money/future isn\'t everything.
