I have hypothyroidism as well, and all it takes is a thyroid pill taken once per day to balance your levels and you are good to go. No complications, easy to manage, etc. The only challenge is gradually increasing your dosage to figure out what you require, and it takes 4-6 weeks for your thyroid levels to adjust after starting medication, so it can be a long process to get your levels right.

Lots of causes of hyper- and hypothyroidism though. The only time you would need radiation is if it is cancerous I believe (which is rare, compared to the common causes of genetics, iodine deficiencies [if hypothyroid], autoimmune disease, etc).

That's my understanding at least, but I know more about hypo than hyperthyroidism, which is what he would have if he had an accelerated heart beat.

We need an Endocrinologist in here to give some proper input! Hah.

    My apologies, I mispoke.

My cat was afflicted with hyperthyroidism, not hypothyroidism, which is the exact opposite.

(In that case they inject a radioactive iodine isotope, which is absorbed by the thyroid and destroys the part that causes it to produce excessive thyroxine. Expensive, but worked like a charm.)

That's awseome. Let's just hope this isn't akin to "Shattenkirk returning Tuesday", because I've more than had my fill of that b.s.

Is he still sick? Does he usually skate around nonchalantly like that? Nice hit on Ovi though
