Default Is Ryan Howse the biggest disappointment in recent memory?

When I say disappointment I don't mean he is like a failure by any means. He excelled at the junior levels and is a successful person in my eyes for it. I don't mean to sound negative but I mean in terms of becoming an NHL talent that I believe he could have been if things panned out well for him.

Guy was a top 3 pick I believe in the WHL Bantam draft, ended up being drafted in the 3rd round by the Flames in 2009, has an unbelievable year in 2010-11 with 51 goals in 70 games. With his skill set along with his speed at the time I thought he could be a 30 - 30 guy in the NHL. He was signed to ECHL last season but I have no idea what happened with that? May have not passed a physical but I do not know.

Hearing more on his backstory I kind up understand why he is not in hockey anymore though.

Many bigger disappointments than a 3rd rounder not panning out. He was always a long shot prospect anyway.... Shooting the puck was about all he did well. Esposito and Filatov come to mind right away as much bigger disappointments.

He was a very damn good skater until he went pro and his weight went up. But yes Filatov and Espo are bigger disappointments in reality. For me Filatov was the biggest

    Alexander Daigle.

Sens tanked so they could draft 1st overall.

2nd overall ended up being...Chris Pronger.

I think that's how it went at least, could be wrong.

Ryan Howse isn't even on the radar, list, or in any consideration of "biggest disappointment". In that category, he's the equivalent of dropping a pebble in a stormy sea.

Ya, there were certainly a lot bigger disappointments than Howse.

To me the bigger disappointments are the guys people universally paid a lot to acquire and the player turns into a complete bust. Howse does not fit this criteria. I'm willing to bet there were a lot of deeper leagues where he was not even owned.

Hugh Jessiman and Daigle especially have to be worse.

No you're right, it did go Daigle then Pronger and Daigle actually said "no one remembers #2". Daigle was kind of a loser, but when people say the Sens tanked and Daigle is the worst bust ever they are re-writing history a bit. Daigle, unlike a lot of other guys in this thread, while disappointing was a legit NHLer who could put up 50 points. He probably could have been better but he had a bad attitude and didn't want to put the work in to dominate at the highest level like he did in the Q. Also the Sens didn't tank. They were absolute garbage, like one of the worst teams ever. They went into their last game needing to lose to get 1st overall pick, and it happened to be against one of the stronger teams in the league. The Sens used all their regular "best" players, so did the Bruins, and they lost. The same way they did 69 other times that year. I can't even begin to explain to you how bad that team was, not sure if you remember that far back. Their first camp, a former college player that worked for the Sun delivering papers showed up to do a sort of "diary" for the newspaper about the new team. He finished the camp having scored more points than any of the pros. This was not a tank. This was a bad team being bad.

Anyways, I'm not sure how Daigle is a worse 1st overall than say Patrik Stefan for example. The problem was the Senators hyped him way too much because they were desperate to find a reason for people to come to games in the early days. Also being located between Montreal and Toronto amplified everything because the rabid hockey media from those markets could point and laugh.
