Rask+ for Holtby
Is Holtby the 2nd(or top 5 at worst) best goalie to own now with cats of Wins and SV%?
League details: salary cap with goalie cats of Wins and SV%; skater cats are G, A, PPP, +/- and PIM.
I am very close to trading Rask+Marner+Rantanen for Holtby.
Reasons for doing the trade:
1. I am in win-now mode and Holtby should get more Wins and better SV% than Rask this year(and likely next few unless Rask gets traded)
2. I save quite a bit of cap space in making that deal which then I can use the scoop up productive players off the ww (much more productive than Rantanen and obv. Marner this year:
Reasons for not doing this trade:
1. Give up top-end offensive prospects (but Marner is at least a couple of years away and Rantanen is not likely to do much this year)
2. Rask could(?) end up producing better stats than Holtby (unlikely given their teams but Rask is a top talent)

Rask+Marner for Holtby?
I’d do it. The sinking ship of Boston is looking bad. Marner is either the NHL next yr, or OHL next yr. I don’t think he gets put down again to the OHL. He’ll be up with Nylander, Brown, and all the other rookies for the Leafs next yr, but who knows if they’ll be productive then.
I say go for it.

I would not give up Marner and Rantanen. I would just give up one of them in the deal. preferably Rantanen.

What about when you consider that with the extra cap space I'll have (about 4.5 mil), I'll be able to pick up someone like Hanzal or another productive player this year?

No, I would say the difference is only worth one of them. And If you are giving up Marner, then I would expect a lesser prospect in return.

Here is another factor: Meier is currently available on the ww so if I made this deal I could pick him up so the deal would be Rask+Marner+Rantanen for Holtby+Meier. And I'd still have cap space for other players.

I think you make that trade. Holtby is an upgrade on a better team, and while losing the prospects hurts the cap space helps especially if you know good prospects available to replace

I am a big Holtby fan and the added cap space only helps. I love the prospects but when it comes down to it, they are just prospects. If you're looking to win, I would definitely do the deal

Do this trade for sure, there will be 100 prospects come and gone before yours are relevant. Rask will tank hard this year and holtby is a top 3 goalie for the next 3 years imo.
