Early season blockbuster...

Hi,

Curious on your opinion on a deal I've been working on and off for a few months, essentially it would look like Quick + Virtanen (or Hamonic, he is my 6th best dman and we start 6 D) for Ryan Johansen + a pick.

I am not unloading Quick due to the early season, as I said this has been brewing for months and I foresee him playing 60+ games with his regular strong stats, but to me the chance to snag RyJo would be huge. I am already deep at C & RW but could find a spot for him with Crosby, Sequin, Kessel, Malkin, Kucherov, but we start 4 at each forward position and 2 goalies a week. I have Holtby, Howard, Mason, Vasilievskiy as my others so I can move one. Goalies hold big value in this league, they make up for 33% of scoring categories.

My feeling is to do it, as Virtanen never gets into my lineup unless spot start on a 4 game week, and Quick I can replace with Mason or Howard. Mason is pretty consistent and Vasilevskiy my longer term play. I then upgrade from one of Lehtera/Eric Staal to Johansen in my lineup. To me the upgrade of that is much greater than downgrade in goal correct?

What are your thoughts?

I think Johansen is entering beast mode this year. Even with Columbus struggles hes over PPG and has fired 17 shots. I expect around 75-80 from him which puts him in Getzlaf/Backstrom territory. I make the trade.

I like this trade for you... its hard to give up a goalie, but you are getting an amazing player in return!

We nearly had a deal based around Quick + Pietrangelo for RyJo + Subban last year but fell apart last minute. Trying to re-spark it this year but doubt Subban would be included with his hot start...

If goalies make up 1/3 of the categories and their value is high within the league then this is a win-win. Have to pay big to get a big goalie and he's doing just that. You have goalies to spare so you use that to your advantage and acquire a high end piece in RyJo who I agree should have a big season. Like for both sides.

I think it is win-win. But with Quick's poor play the other GM might think you're trying to get rid of him.

I value goalies pretty high, but I would trade Quick for RyJo straight up!

Virtanen is of no consequence to me.

I like Johansen a lot and I think you come out with the better side but it is fair. Quick is still a good goalie so it's not lopsided. I'd make the trade

Guys I am in a similar-ish situation in my keeper, where an owner has offered me Nash (or Forsberg) AND a 1st rounder, and Steve Mason for M.-A. Fleury. My other goalies are Howard/Mrazek. #1 goalies are kinda hard to come by, but would this be worth it?

Take that immediately, I think this is a landslide win for you (if you get Forsberg), do not do it for Nash. Mason is a far underrated fantasy goalie and is off to a slow start, but his numbers last year on a worse Philly team were among the best in GAA & save %.
