are you asking what we think? I am confused..
Ummm, good job, I guess..
We just went through the 10th round in our first dispersal draft for my new Dynasty - 10 teams, 3C/LW/RW,3F,6D,2G,5 bench, 15+ farm.
Stats are G,A,+/-,PIM,PPP,SOG,W,SV%,GAA,SHO.
Salary cap is 91.7M$ (35M over the NHL cap).
I posted a while ago about picking Nabokov in the 3rd round... well, finally, I ended up with Luongo, Turco, Bryzgalov. I also loaded up on D. Some team don\'t even have a D yet and the last team without a G finally took his first in 9th (Biron), most don\'t have a second yet.
I have a pretty high salary, but I can manage. My forwards are obviously lacking right now.
How\'s that for a crazy draft strategy?
5- Roberto Luongo (6.750M)
16- Vincent Lecavalier (6.875M)
25- Rick Nash (5.400M)
36- Olli Jokinen (5.250M)
45- Brent Burns (3.550M)
56- Jay Bouwmeester (4.875M)
65- Ryan Whitney (4.000M)
76- Ilya Bryzgalov (4.250M)
85- Marty Turco (5.700M)
96- Zdeno Chara (7.500M)

I think its crazy that lecalalier whitney bryz turco and chara went that low. Other than that add me to the confused list.

Karhgath - if you embrace the theory that quality goalies and then quality D men are proportionally in shorter supply than forwards, I would suggest this strategy isn\'t so crazy.
So far you have 10 quality players - you still have a lot of drafting to do - what you end up with after you fill your 23rd spot will the measure of whether your strategy truly works or not.
Looks like you are having fun and you sound excited - that\'s worth a lot!!
Dude, how do you draft Bouwmeester before Whitney? Or Burns for that matter...
Other then that your strategy could bite ya in the rear, or it could pay off. Obviously, someone is gonna need a decent tender, so it depends what kinda value you get in return for the trades you will probably have to make.

Im not drinking the whitney kool-aid after see\'ing last season and his terrible playoff.
Would you take Green over Jbo?

Perhaps a little too D heavy, but I like your tenders!
I may have swapped out Whitney and JBo for forwards, especially considering you managed to get Chara that late.

Green went round 3 IIRC, I wouldn\'t take JBo before him for sure. I drafted Burns first because I knew he would be the next one drafted, Whitney last because I knew some were underevaluating him. After that, guys started drafting Letang, Coburn, etc... so in the end I believe I\'m a huge winner.
I couldn\'t pass up on Chara that late, so yeah, in retrospect I probably should have went with at least one F but when it came to my picks, either I reached 1-2 rounds for a Winger, picked a C or picked a D... since C are so plentiful, I went with the D. I probably should have reached a bit for a winger but I hate drafting a player too early, especially in the first few rounds.
And, I was looking for some comments and critics about being too G/D heavy mostly, sorry if that wasn\'t clear
Since it\'s a salary cap league, drafting is really going weird, so I decided to take advantage of it.

Well, if JBo gets traded to better team...which isn\'t a reach, he may end up being a good value pick.

You have $37.0M remaining. A lot of picks to go. It\'s going to get really tight, really fast. I\'m in contention for 1st place in our league ($85.05M). The only guys I\'m paying big bucks are: Iginla, Ovy, Crosby. Gonchar $6.0M. Savard $5.0M. Brodeur $5.2M, Fluery $5.0M. Blake at $5.0M, but I picked him up for $5 on a waiver and I\'m not afraid to send him packing. I like your tenders strategy. The other poolies will come knocking. I build blueline last. Poorest dollars-to-points ratio comes from the back end. Expensive D-men will bounce all over your league for little in return. It\'s going to get tough to fill those wings. You\'re looking for about 20 points for every million of cap space. Good luck.
Don\'t get me wrong, if I was an NHL Gm and I had to choose between Jbo and whitney, I\'m taking bouwmeester no questions asked. Fantasty hockey though, its hard to pass up the guy the plays with Crosby and Malkin. Whitney had an off year and still put up more points that Jbo. The reason I ask about drafting Green before Jbo is because Whitney was in the exact same situation Green was the year before. Coming of a big season, showing huge potential, and then has an average at best season, and everyone is off the bandwagon. Young dmen especially, can prove to be very inconsistent. John Micheal Liles or Matt Carle anyone?? All I am saying is, that among the people I draft with Whitney is going well before Jbo.

Defense has always been neglected by many, since they usually don\'t post as much points. Ok, that\'s true.
However, in PIM, +/-, PPP leagues, they are still HIGHLY valuable, moreso than deeper wingers than might post more points but are on second PP unit or not at all. D can post as much PI\' as others too. They usually have less SOG but I\'ve tried to take high SOG defense for a reason.
That\'s the first part. You also have to realise that EVERYONE needs 6 Ds. That means, lets say I have two 60+ D, 2 50+pts D and 2 40+ pts D. Someone else have only average 6 30-40pts Ds.
I have 300 from my D and he has 210 average from his. He needs to have 7 F with more than 10pts than mine, or 3 with 20+ pts.
In the end, I believe I come back a winner since high scoring D are a rarity and they still contribute a lot in other categories.
But, salary wise, yes it\'s pretty high, we\'ll see how it goes.
