The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the New Jersey Devils have made a trade offer that would land center Travis Zajac in Toronto.
This could make sense as Toronto GM Lou Lamoriello was with the Devils for 28 years and knows their players inside and out. A couple of players have been mentioned in return including Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk, but not both. Zajac had only 11 goals and 25 points in 74 games last season and has not been the same player since missing most of the 2011-12 season with injury. Stay tuned.

I would be shocked if Kadri or JVR would be traded for Zajac....can't see that happening....but, wait, it's the Leafs...I guess anything can happen.....

Lou's time in NJ showed there is a fine line between buying low and buying a dead asset. I guess we'll see where Zajac falls...

I dont blame NJ in asking for JVR or Kadri but the Leafs would have to be brain dead to deal one of those two for Zajac. If the rumour had said Bozak was the key piece going back then that would make more sense.

There's no way I'd trade Bozak for Zajac. Bozak has 3 years at $4.2. Zajac is 6 years at $5.75. Unless NJ is eating half that deal, or throwing in major assets, it just makes no sense to me.

I find it ironic and amusing that this was a literal joke when Lou was hired in Toronto and now it's actually being speculated that it could happen.
I guess it could, but man oh man, talk about wastes of money. Zajac is a great second/third line center, but he's lost in the offensive zone without a star to guide him. His work rate leaves a little to be desired, too.
