Overall to me it looks like you're in the midst of a rebuild. Some elite quality young guys with Eichel, RyJo, Drouin and next tier with Stone, Ehlers, Hubey, Pastrnak and maybe Panarin and/or Nino as longer shots. Add in your farm guys, and you've got loads of talent on the way. You've got some decent pieces on D and in net, again with some good talent on the way there too.
So my initial thoughts on your team is that you likely can't compete this year, so continue your rebuild and look for ways to expedite it. Guys like Thornton, Sharp, Pleks, Carter, Jagr are the guys I'm looking to move for youth that is close to being ready (no more trading for future picks or guys who are 4-5 years away).
Every year there are guys who have big slumps (last year Mack, Nichushkin and Hertl jump to mind) or guys who developing a little slower (Galchenyuk, Yaks, Huberdeau, M.Rielly, etc.) that you can likely deal some of your established talent for. Obviously you need to pick your spots and not just grab "any" name, but in your shoes, I'm accepting that I'm out this year and looking to move pieces in order to build up my talent pool of "near-ready" players.
Hope that helps!
