New draft just completed....curious to hear thoughts :)

Just completed the inaugural WHL draft (24 teams) and I had the 19th overall pick. Curious to get some feedback on what you think? Roster in sig.

Huberdeau should break out this year.

Scared of the Patty Kane situation but who knows what will happen there. Might end up being nothing.

Carlson is going to be a beast for years to come.

Having Andersen and Mason is a huge plus for you. If you don't want to ride them both you may be able to land a high-end forward by packaging one of them with one of your younger players (if you wanna go that route!).

Reinhart and Meier should turn into gold. Mantha and Matheson are also decent names to have in the stockpile.

It was an incredible(ly tough) draft. There wasn't a team that came out on top. 5 or 6 teams going for it for the next 2-3 years. 8-10 teams stuck between short vs. long term strategy, and then 4 or 5 teams clearly waiting in the weeds with young talent expected to breakout 2-4 years from now (I aimed for that section myself). I think you fall in that middle section. You gotta decide if you wanna go for it now (trade youth with potential for older guys before the other teams in your grey area do it first and leave you without any trading partners) or go for it later (and trade away your vets to teams going for it for their youth - you also gotta think about doing that now or closer to the deadline where you might get more value for them).

Aside from potential criminal Patrick Kane you seem not to have drafted any elite players. If this is points only I am not too excited (so sorry) and even some of your prospects may not amount to much (so sorry again).
I'll assume it has several peripheral categories since you drafted Zac Rinaldo.

It's all speculative right now anyway, just curious on perception of roster...(without sharing my strategy since so many GMs are on here haha)

I drafted Kane prior to that coming out....otherwise may have gone MacKinnon. With 24 teams and only getting 2 picks every 48 picks no team has numerous elite players, some may have more "name value" players however depending on strategy. Much appreciate the feedback! (no need to apologize)

I agree VV. That draft was tough, no real bad picks throughout.

If anyone is interested in a trade like that I am certainly open, always open to trade discussions

I really like the picks of Grigorenko and Hodgson in a capped league. Smart picking. Panarin could be a good pick up, too.

It is unfortunate that your draft was before the Kane situation, because MacKinnon would have been a better pick (possibly a better pick, regardless, given that it is a cap league and he won't reach Kane's $10.5 cap hit for a number of years). Huberdeau and Carlson will both be very productive for you, and I don't hate your goaltending, either. Getting two starting goalies is tough in a 24 team league, and you have managed to do it for a little over $5 million.

Without seeing other teams, I would say that your team looks pretty good. As mojavedesert mentioned, there does not seem to be an elite scorer on your team (due to what happened after the fact to Kane), which is unfortunate. That said, I think your overall depth is pretty good.

I'm gonna say you'll slot somewhere into the Bottom-8, in Year1.

I like that you grabbed F.Andersen(ANA), because he has the best off-night schedule... and the 1G spot means you will have the least "conflicts" of your 2nd goalie (Mason) to your starter.
That's good value since goalies are best "per game" scorers.

That's the good news.
Bad news is that you drafted a lot of players that won't produce better than their draft spot for about 3+ years.

Based on the team talent alone (no trades, no good or bad injury luck), I'll forecast:
Year 1: 20th
Year 2: 14th
Year 3: 9th

Agree with this. You should get a lot of starts out these two as long as they stay healthy. When Mason goes down we can talk about a Neuvirth trade
