So far the only thing Lou has done differently from his NJ days is not immediately give the guy a multi-year deal.
Tryout contract means nothing, but it’s worked for the Leafs before. Gets to have some playing time in the pre-season, maybe gets some chemistry with someone and works his way onto a top 6 role. Gets flipped for anything at the deadline.
If it’s a TO contract, it’ll be a 1yr cheap dollar contract. Very easy to trade off. Chances are he doesn’t make it.

If he's signed, it's for depth purposes only and to create competition. The Leafs will already have Lupul, Arcobello, Panik, Parenteau and Beck on the right side, not including Brown or Leivo who are probably close to making it to the show on a full-time basis. Generous of the Leafs, but it wouldn't surprise me if Setoguchi ends up with the Marlies - don't think he outperforms any of the RWs the Leafs currently have.
I dont see him with the Marlies at all. Never waste a spot for kid. So if he doesnt make it hes done.
Its sad cause he was good player in JR. Always Had the talent. But as the scouts warned b4 he got drafted he had motivation isues.
