Yeah. I don't think the 2006 playoffs will carry as much weight in this contract negotiation as it did his last. I'd imagine this would be a very team friendly contract. One that won't sting as much when he ends up riding shotgun to Khudobin again.
Humm......
It appears that Cam Ward and the Carolina Hurricanes are working on a contract extension.
Ward is entering the final year of his six-year, $37.8M contract which brings a $6.3M cap hit. It's unclear what Ward is seeking in his extension, but the 31-year-old netminder's play has been slipping the last few seasons. So the news an extension is being worked on comes as a bit of a surprise.

Unless it's a very team-friendly deal this makes no sense. Ward is interchangeable.

If he's smart he takes a cap friendly deal, finds a way to play well, and manages to get dealt at a deadline to a contender.
Carolina needs to cut the cord with Ward. Its way over due. They need a starter not a back up.
Been a pretty subpar goalie for a few years now. It better be a short, cheap extension. Like 3m/2 yrs or something.

Wonder what happens now that they made the move to get Lack...
Could it be to motivate Ward and see if he's worth an extension before 2016?
Could it be to help their negotiating tactics and get Ward to sign for less?
Could it be the final straw and indirectly tell Ward that his days are numbered as a Hurricane?
