    Default Tampa Bay Injuries

I’m a little surprised this wasn’t made before today. Ben Bishop was clearly hurt, same with Johnson. Finally came out to what was wrong.

I have no clue how TJ shot the puck, or how Bishop stood up. Tough injuries to star guys

If Bishop was 6'2 he wouldn't have played. When he is on his knees there are still few holes. NHL needs to decrease the size of equipment or place height restrictions on goalies.

I hear Darren Pang is leading the charge for this rule to be implemented.

It is extreme. If they don't do something in regards to net size and equipment then the next best thing would be to place restrictions on height and weight. I don't think it's a big deal right now, but the way things are trending, what if a 7 foot humongous big goalie makes the NHL? He literally wouldn't have to move much.

If Bishop was the size of Enroth, he's not playing in the Final with that injury. Due to his size he doesn't have to move too much as it is so injuries aren't as big of a deal.

This Is outlandish... even for you Ev. Seems you’re letting your disdain for Tampa and especially Ben Bishop get the better of you.

How is outlandish? Hockey has become a snoozefest because goalies - even the ones who aren't stars - are too good. The last three games of the Final were 2-1, 2-1, and 2-0. They have to do SOMETHING to increase goal scoring. They cannot continue with this downward trend of goals. They have to change SOMETHING in regards to the goalies. Most people agree with this but it seems the NHL doesn't care. Offense brings people to the games.

Same thing applies to Crawford here. Not just Bishop. They need to change something, and fast.

not argueing with the premise of your point in this post here EV. But the ONLY solution is adjusting equipment. Be it pads, or sticks or Nets. But to even suggest physical restrictions is outlandish in my opinion.

In this day and age where athletes are continually getting bigger and stronger, to suggest size physical restrictions for a specific position is not only unrealistic, it could also be considered discriminatory and prejudicial. In 10 years when the average height of basked ball players creeps toward 8 feet... are they going to start excluding tall players or Raise the nets?

    "place height restrictions on goalies"

    That's how it's outlandish Ev.

If Bishop wasn’t massive, he’d be out. But a 6’6” Vasy would be in. There’s already pad limitation rules in place, but isn’t it based on body size? Like 40% of this blah blah blah.

But even when Bishop would go down and pop up quickly I was shocked, then when he would get a pad save on a shoot in he’d be using his stick like a cane to get up. He’s a bit of a show artist. You never saw TJ wince when he did a shot, or shake his hand.

Goalies change, then players change how they score. Before it was standup goalies switching to butterfly. Along the way shorter goalies were unable to keep up with the butterfly style, so tall guys started being goalies. When scoring was up, these TALL goalies weren’t in the NHL yet, we’re seeing them filter in (lindback, Rinne, Bishop, Vasy, Missiaen (6’8”), Hovinen (6’7”), Markstrom (6’6”)).

Goals against leaders in the regular season:
    Montreal – 2.24 (Carey Price 6’3”)
    Chicago – 2.27 (Crawford 6’2”)
    NYR – 2.28 (Lundqvist 6’1”)
    STB – 2.4 (Allen 6’2” Elliot 6’2”)
    LAK – 2.4 (Quick 6’1”)

No one on the list is massive. The teams defense is more of an impact.

Ken Dryden was huge and lanky. He was also incredible and very acrobatic. The difference is, his equipment was thin and made him look like a rail. Bishop looks like the Stay Puff Marshmallow Man. Goalie equipment needs to be completely re-engineered and designed for protection ONLY - not to offer size advantages that aid in covering more area and making saves. The chest pads, blocker and catching gloves especially could easily be reduced in size by AT LEAST 25% or more and still offer the same protection from injury.

It is completely unacceptable for the last three games of the Final - the biggest showcase of the sport - to be 2-1, 2-1, 2-0. People call soccer boring, but that is even lower than the average soccer score - completely unacceptable. We need to change the equipment first and foremost.

Until one goalie gets a bomb in the hand and breaks a bone. Goalies are like QBs in football. So protected because it’s hard to find that replacement.

Not saying they can and should reduce the size, just saying the second Carey Price gets a stinger in the shoulder or something like that, GMs will be super pissed.
