In fact they need Lehtonen IMO but furthermore, need to secure a backup goalie. Enroth is the only in-house option right now unless they view Campbell as being ready, which I don't think he is. They are in the market for a backup but do not believe in the market for both a starter to replace Lehtonen AND a backup.
I certainly don't believe that it's out of the question that they'd be willing to move Lehtonen, dependent on what other goalie they can acquire.

They need a starting goalie. The only way that they "need" Lehtonen is if they cannot move Lehtonen and acquire another one.

Luongo is one of the best goalies of his generation....he just posted 28 wins, a .921 sv%, 2.35 GAA .... in FLORIDA. "Not bad"? He's a fantastic goalie.

What about trading Lethonen and signing Dubnyk as a UFA?

And they can have him with my blessing. As you say, Kari is a "good" goaltender. But he has adequately demonstrated that he cannot steal games, and if he can't steal games then he's ultimately going to come up short at nut-crunching time. I don't expect to ever see him skating the Cup, anywhere.

Kari is a known quantity, and he's at an age now where we can't expect him to all-of-a-sudden kick it up a notch. I'd much rather see where someone else can take me, even if it's a temporary step backwards.
