I rather have Hanzal. However, Back surgery. Yikes!
30 team deep dynasty league that uses the NHL AAV for salaries and the NHL salary cap. We dress 4 full lines (positions matter), 6 dmen and a goalie each week. Our rosters can be up to 25 players with an unlimited farm team for players 24 and under. There is a 5 round draft each summer to bring new players into the league. You keep a player on your team as long as he does not sign a new contract as a UFA. We use G, A, Hits, Blocked Shots, Takeaways, +/-, Face off %, PP TOI and PK TOI as stats for the skaters. The stats are weighted differently. My team is solid from top to bottom as I lost in the finals last year. I expect my team to be a little bit better this year so hopefully I can win the championship.
Should I trade Martin Hanzal (C) for Dmitri Jaskin (LW/RW) and a late round draft pick?
My Team:
C: Logan Couture, Brandon Dubinsky (LW), Artem Anisimov, Martin Hanzal
LW: Thomas Vanek (RW), Dustin Byfuglien (RW,D) , Lance Bouma (C, RW),
RW: Jeff Carter (C), Brent Burns (D), Luke Glendening (C, LW)
D: Nick Kronwall, Justin Braun, Hampus Lindholm, Jonas Brodin, Chris Tanev, Alex Petrovic
G: Tuukka Rask, Darcy Kuemper
UFAs that may re-sign with my team
C: Mark Letestu
LW: Andrew Desjardins
RW: Justin Williams
D: Francois Beauchemin, Barret Jackman
G: Devan Dubnyk
Relevant Prospects:
F: Alex Burmistrov, Mark McNeill, Tyler Graovac
D: Christian Folin
G: Nathan Lieuwen

- I said... "God damn this tablet is heavy!"
Does FO% matter enough to keep Hanzal over Jaskin? Hanzal is still entering his prime years, although he's hurt a bunch...If you need the cap space, then take Jaskin, but if you can afford it I think I'd keep Hanzal. I don't know the numbers, but I think Hanzal also gets more PP time? I'm not sure.
If you run the numbers through Fantasy Hockey Geek, where does Hanzal's ranking come out? This could help play in the decision-making. I feel he'd be fairly highly ranked in your format, even with injuries?

I voted for Jaskin because I just can't stand the constant injuries with Hanzal. The guy is a beast in multicat leagues when he plays but what do you do about the 20 games he seems to miss every year? I also think that Jaskin is a very nice young comp for Hanzal. It will take him a few more years but I expect that in his prime he can become Hanzal without the injuries.
Hanzal is a decent enough depth player,... When he's NOT on the IR which isn't often enough.
I'd make that trade in a heartbeat.
Further trade discussions in the league in the original post might allow me to make the following changes to my team. I have included salaries for easy comparison. Remember stats are G, A, +/-, hits, blocked shots, takeaways, PP TOI, PK TOI.
Give up
Martin Hanzal $3.1M x 2 years
Chris Tanev $4.45M x 5 years
Receive
Frans Nielsen $2.75M x 1 year (UFA after)
Dmitri Jaskin $.895M x 1 year (RFA after)
Brenden Dillon RFA
Would this move make sense? My team should be one of the best again next season.
I like the new deal better than the Hanzal/Jaskin straight deal. With the peripherals, I don't think Dillon would be tremendously behind Tanev in terms of value and a lot cheaper too. Any shortcomings that Jaskin may have compared to Hanzel (if healthy) could also be negated by what will surely be a miserable +/- from Hanzel. I also think that the further along into the future, the more the trade falls in your favour due to Hanzel likely breaking down and Jaskin being the perfect replacement.
Jaskin for me.....Hanzal is a BAB.....

As long as the FOW% doesn't count for much, I like the Jaskin side better.

Jaskin could see a bigger role if St Louis truly is intent on moving some of their core.
He was impressive playing 3rd line minutes and had pretty decent possession numbers. Could be the right mix for a breakout year. 55-60 points.

Thank you all for your opinions. I expected this most people to prefer Martin Hanzal in this thread but it turns out to be overwhelmingly in favor of Dmitri Jaskin.
What does everyone expect in terms of points for Jaskin next season?
Update to this thread. I ended up making the following trades:
1) Gave up Chris Tanev for Frans Nielsen (plus a 2017 pick if I lose Nielsen to UFA next summer)
2) Gave up Martin Hanzal for Dmitri Jaskin and the 77th pick in this summer's entry draft
How did I do?
Team now looks like this:
C: Dubinsky, Nielsen, Anisimov, Burmistrov (assuming he returns)
LW: Couture, Vanek, Bouma,
RW: Carter, Burns, Glendening, Jaskin
D: Kronwall, Byfuglien, Brodin, Lindholm, Braun, Folin
G: Rask, Kuemper
