According to the Wiki page on Sternal fractures:

Due to the associated injuries, the mortality rate for people with sternal fracture is high, at an estimated 25–45%.^[2] However, when sternal fractures occur in isolation, their outcome is very good.^[10]



The list of things than can happen with a sternal fracture is ridiculous. Myocardial and Pulmonary contusions are likely, damage to blood vessels in the chest, myocardial rupture, flail chest, broken ribs, and bronchial tears. The most common way to break your sternum is to get into a car accident and have your chest hit the steering wheel. Karlsson hit him as hard as a car…

The more and more I see the replay and the aftermath, I want a “SportsScience” snippet done on this hit. I can just see the replay, and then slow down, then zooming in on Beaulieu’s chest, then it fading into just his skeleton and his sternum snapping.
