Goodell being called as a witness would apparently prevent him from ruling on appeal.

So the NFL was like, Goodell will hear your appeal and make the call on the suspension term and what not. But the Patriots were like, “You can’t because you were questioned as a witness in the Deflategate report prior to the suspensions”?

This has gotten so big and elaborate; I’ve given up trying to follow it. This is what the patriots want me to do.

You're letting teams handle, use and provide their own footballs for games. What other sport does that? Of course teams are going to push the boundaries. You set it up for this.

This. How in the world did the NFL not think this would ever happen is beyond insane. Didn't a team (Indy?) last year (or at least before this incident) make the same complaint? Hasn't New England pushed the boundaries everywhere regarding the rules? The league is at fault for not policing what in hindsight was inevitable.

It is bizarre that Goodell is the judge in the first place; he also determines the original sentence and then handles the appeal, as well
