"Boston University forward Evan Rodrigues will sign with the Buffalo Sabres, according to sources. The undrafted free agent ranked second in the country with 61 points (21 goals, 40 assists) in 41 games as a senior while playing on a line with freshman star Jack Eichel. Interestingly enough, Buffalo is also the probable landing spot for Eichel now that the Sabres have the second overall pick."
Interesting. Perhaps Eichel helped lure him to Buffalo, or maybe Buffalo was lured to him by scouting Eichel.

Cool. I hope he does well. Sometimes it's hard to tell when guys line up beside "talented" players. As we've often seen, it's not always easy to complement those "talented" players. You think it would be, but it's not because the superstars think the game faster/better than most of their peers. Good signing with zero downside for the Sabres.

They should ask Eichel who his best friend is and sign him, even if he doesn’t play hockey, just because of the way Murray handled not getting the 1st overall. Just try and make Eichel as happy as possible. But I have little faith in Moulson being able to play with a top talent (NYI), Ennis will show if he can in the World’s coming up, E.Kane should be able too but never has played with a top talent on his line. The Sabres don’t have many RW in their system that excite anyone, but maybe a center (Girgensons/Grigorenko) move to the RW to play with Eichel or Reinhart.
Either way, free Draft pick in Evan Rodrigues and you know he can play with Eichel.

No way this kid comes into the league next year and starts on the top line in Buffalo. Not unless Buffalo hires Rodriguez's father to coach the team.

My nephew asked me what I thought about the Rodriguez signing, and I had really no opinion on it at all. Don't know much about the kid as a player. I suppose Murray see's more in him than merely Eichel's former team mate - a player whose sole purpose is to make Eichel's transition more fluid. But I really don't know.
