I bet the Kings would trade Richards for him. Savard on LTIR would open some cap room, and he could be a pretty good unofficial assistant coach.

Not to be a downer of any type, but if say savard gets traded for ______, following the Horton deal etc, is it time for the NHL to either change rules on trading these guys or maybe something with the cap hit to the teams? I know there will be legal rule, but it seems silly that in today's day and age, a professional $millions +++ team will take on a guy that can't play for cap relief etc.

To me it just seems silly. Its almost in a way like collusion would be looked at in our fantasy leagues.

I understand why it happens, but shouldn't this be viewed as detrimental to the league?

I think if one Savard is hurt you have to bring in another Savard to take his place.. Where is Denis Savard these days??

Yeah, +1 to this. Savard and Horton shouldn't be tradeable commodities at this point. If they wanted to give the teams some sort of buyout option that doesn't count against the cap, that would be the way to go.
