    Default Trading Third overall pick?

I have the third pick in our upcoming prospects draft, before the lottery. I have about a 16% chance of getting number one overall, depending on up the lottery.

I have an opportunity to move the pick before the lottery. I am looking to get a pick in the 10-13 range, plus a second rounder and prospect.

The league is 16 teams, standard Yahoo categories, roster of 25, farm team of 30. Players on the farm team cannot exceed 82 games, so players who contribute quickly have added value.

Downside is giving up a slim chance of getting McDavid, but with so much quality in this years draft, how much of a drop off is there between 3rd overall and a pick in the 10 to 13 range?

Enough that I would quit the league if I made that trade.

Not worth it at all. Even if you miss out on McDavid. Strome or Mariner are worth picking too.

Depends who the other prospect is you are receiving. But unless it's a very good prospect I don't like it got you at all. I would make it a protected pick in case you get 1 or 2.

Can't say I like this move. I find myself currently with the fifth pick, and out of the McDavid sweepstakes. However, when I had the fourth pick and a 10% lottery chance at McDavid I was offered two later first rounders and two midrange prospects.

I said "No"! You should too.

16% chance of getting McDavid is better than 100% chance of not getting him.
Also, if 16% chance to get McDavid, means you have a X+% chance of getting Eichel.
If neither come to fruition then you have a great consolation prize with one of Strome, Marner, Crouse, Provorov.

Oh God no... Keep your pick. Worst case is probably better than the alternate.

Strome and Marner are prospects who are at the same level (or better) as Bennett, Reinhart and Draisaitl. So even if you don't win the 1st overall pick, that 3rd overall gets you a player who could have gone 1st overall last year.

In real life, the Top-5 this year is better than I've seen in a long time. Even the Top-10 is really good. But after that, I would say the players in that 10-30 range are pretty similar as they were a year ago. Hopefully this helps you with your decision.

Lets put it this way, I won our draft lottery with pretty much the same odds! So would you trade mcdavid for that package? Even so I probably wouldn't do that as I am pretty high on marner\strome as mentioned previously in the thred.

It all boils down to who the prospect coming back would be. Unless he's a top 10 prospect, then I would be passing on the trade offer as a top 3 pick is almost a sure thing to be a solid NHL player.

If I have a top 4 pick this year I keep it. 5th is the first spot I would consider moving down. But Strome and Marner are a tier of their own in fantasy.

I'm in a similar position in one of my keepers.

I'm currently sitting with the 4th overall and getting inquired about moving it. The guy who's inquiring is already sitting with the 1st and 2nd overall picks before the lottery and he's trying to sew up McDavid.

I've turned down all his offers to this point and holding hope I get McDavid, but worse case, I get Strome or Marner.
