Considering his age and the direction the Leafs are trying to go, this doesn't really surprise me.

It honestly should. I’m not a fan of Kadri; his plays at the blue line drive me nuts. He’s too much of an east-west player RIGHT AT THE BLUE LINE, but turns into a north-south player right before the opposing blue line.

He’s young, skilled, hits, and next season will be his 4th full season (including half season) in the NHL. Anything the Leafs would get back right now would be too low for his actual value. If they wait another yr, what’s really the harm? They get a 3rd round instead of a 2nd rounder? They gotta keep Kadri or Bozak for the rebuild, otherwise Holland is the top line center and he’s more of a 3rd to 2nd line guy right now.

I'm glad to hear this. I hate watching Bozak be the #1 centre when he's not even a #2, imo. I'm not saying Kadri is a #1 but he's leaps and bounds better than Bozak. If they can move Bozak after moving Clarkson, Leafs will be in a great position.
We get one of these - Don't waste it.

It makes sense fornow but we don't know what his contract demands will be in a few months. If he gets paid assuming more improvement in his game is coming but he has a rough season, you're options then become swapping him for another team's undesirable contract. Right now he could still command a hefty return.

Just thinking of how much more the Oilers could've got for Gagner had they traded him one year earlier...

Kadri could develop into a top line centre or at least a 1B situation. With guys as talented as he is, it's all about consistency and good decision making and i think part of it is having consistent linemates that can play with and cover for him.

every team is hoping they hit gold like tampa did with palat/johnson/kucherov. lets see what other young pieces toronto can bring in. kessel gobbling up all the icetime helps toronto score goals but doesnt necessarily allow the young guys to develop as quickly. if toronto is all-in on the full rebuild, bozak and kessel will have to go.
