    Default Trying to land Teravainen

Have a GM in my points only league thinking hard about this offer:

My Tatar & Couturier for his Teravainen

I feel I am overpaying a bit but like Teravainen's upside and situation to be the #2 centre in Chicago as soon as next year. The other guy is waffling though. Is there anyone on my roster, first team in sig, I could substitute for the guys I have on the table already, should I consider adding a late first round pick for his second round pick, or do I stand pat and let the chips fall where they may.

PS the same GM has Nichushkin too, but the asking price was all of the above (Tatar, Couts & the 1st rounder) plus Trouba, and even then he wasn't completely sold. Is this really a better deal given Nichushkin has, IMO, an even higher upside than Teravainen? Help please...

I think both offers are out to lunch.

Tatar is already a 20+ goal scorer in the NHL and hasn't hit his stride yet. I am high on Teravainen as well, but he still has a lot to prove before I would move Tatar and Couturier for him.

The other offer for Nichuskin in a points only league is just nuts.

I know I am overpaying, but would you at least agree that Turbo's upside is higher than both Tatar and Couturier. My team is no where near contending, but if I can assemble a group of 70+ point guys, I should contend within the next two years, and continue to be a top team for years. Can I do that with 50-60 point guys like Tatar and Couts?

Upside doesn't win pools. It's a way to gauge what we think the player is capable of doing, but that doesn't mean he will reach it.

And if you go by expected "upside", Dobber has Teravainen's upside at 80 pts over 3 years. He has Tatars at 78 pts.

The other GM is asking too much for someone who has yet to prove anything.

I see Tatar hitting 30 goals and 20 assists. Couturier not more than 40 points. I'd go for the first deal, but forget the one about Nichuchkin. I just think that Tatar could help you more winning the championship this year.

I think I would stand pat and wouldn't accept this offer. I'm a TT owner myself, but given the choice between proven and unproven, I take the former.

I would trade Teravainen for Tatar in a heartbeat. This deal is completely backwards.

Give him Ritchie, Couturier and your first if you want him that bad, but not Tatar.

You definitely have more than enough on the table for TT.

I wouldn't compromise anymore, in fact since he already hoo'd & hummed on this deal, I'd take it off and not go back.

The guy you are trading with is nuts. Don't share his delusion. Tatar for TT is fair, I might even throw in a 2nd or 3d rounder as a sweetener, but that's it. If he really wants both Tatar and Cout you need to get something good added in to make that deal. Wait until TT is sent back down to the AHL when Versteeg gets back and maybe the guy will come to his senses and do a trade that doesn't gouge flesh from your torso. "Upside" can often be a Siren's song that leads many a GM to destruction.

This is exactly what I was thinking. In my league TT didn't fetch nearly this much in a trade. His AHL season isn't jumping off the page at anyone and there are many question marks around how his game will translate to the NHL. I'm not sold on the idea that he might be a 70 point player at all
