okposo 6-8 weeks ubi

Okay this is purely conjecture... but just food for thought. I have a background in this kind of stuff so it interests me.

Okposo last played on January 19th, playing almost 20 mins and didn't seem to be struggling in any way. Just before the All-Star break the injury was announced abruptly on the 26th of January, meaning the injury most likely occurred sometime during that 7 day period. It most likely means the injury is an acute one. The very definitive timeline reported by the team leads me to believe it's verbatim from what a doctor has relayed to the team.

So the facts are:
1) Very definitive timeline.
2) Acute/Semi-acute injury
3) Upper body

Possible Diagnosis:
1)The first thing that jumped to my head was something musculoskeletal. Broken Wrist was high on my, as that usually takes 6-8 weeks to heal on average. Shoulder injury is also a possibility (Rotator cuff tear).
2) If there is eye involvement, then two of the more common causes of acute injury is Retinal Detachment, and Acute Angle closure Glaucoma. The first definitely requires surgery, and the latter may not require it but may sometimes require it. Both have much more variable healing timelines. Foreign object is a possibility too
3) Concussion is a possibility, but seems unlikely for the above reasons stated.

PURE rumours, but he might have had emergency eye surgery which could range to anything. But Emergency eye surgery is only done when the person’s eyesight is at risk (obviously). A couple of things that cause eye surgery:
Cut or torn eyelid
Scratched eye
Protruding eye
Chemical in the eye
Blood in the white of the eye (popped blood cell)
Something in the eye
Or abnormal Pupil sizing

The Abnormal pupil size is intriguing. After reading up on it quickly, if your pupils are different sizes from each other, you may not feel any adverse side effects, but it is a very bad sign when this happens after a head/eye injury and surgery is almost always a must.

But anything can happen at home or on vacation that could cause this. Hell, even pushing too hard on the toilet can cause popped blood cells in the eye, which can be really bad.

The word from Arthur Staple is Okposo is going to have surgery on the UBI. It was mentioned that he's been bothered by it but has been playing through it. Still no word on what it is.

that is my hope ... been speculation that it could be something very nasty like an eye problem .....but if he's been playing thru it, couldn't be?

hope he's ok and terrible timing for my fantasy playoff run ...
even worse is that last Monday i had a deal done for him and Martinez for Benn right at the deadline, but we were too late and couldnt get it thru..!!

Kyle Okposo's upper-body injury is reportedly a detached retina.
It's not clear how Okposo suffered the injury. He is still expected to return in mid-to-late March. Mikhail Grabovski has temporarily assumed Okposo's spot on the Islanders' top line.
