The scary thing is that this tower is no longer even in use, but they have to maintain the warning lights.

How long would it take you to climb that monster? ps.... they might tell you in the video, but I'm watching muted from work.

Instead of climbing, I would have been asking for the chopper to just drop me at the top.

I might be wrong but there has to be a better way to offer and maintain warning lights.

I have two fears in life. Heights and falling. There isn't enough tea in China to make me do a job like that. I am like Bottlenecker, just looking at that video made my knees shake.

    No f'n way.

Me and heights have an understanding. I agree to stay down here on terra firma and in exchange heights agree not to kill me. It's worked well all these years and I ain't changing now.

I use to do stuff like that haha. I worked on either radio towers, or cable carts. Pretty fun job actually. But I was more of the guy that passed the boss tools up there. However, I think the heighest I got was like 1,000ft. Maybe 1,100. It’s a great workout getting up there that’s for sure.

    Been there.
    Done that.

    Seriously.
My first job out of university was designing telecom towers, including lattice towers:

I have numerous good stories about climbing.
When our company's "engineering" got slow, we often took on "inspection work".

For 6-months to end the year 2002, I climbed towers all through Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritimes.
It was actually fun because I got to travel through almost every reasonable sized town in the Maritimes.
I've actually driven the full perimeter of PEI, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick while doing a RCMP communication tower inspection contract.
(Specifically, I remember buying soap in Lunenberg,NS and whiskey up near Inverness,NS. We partied in Antigonish too.
We drove the entire 360 in NF at night! (Watch out for Mooses!) and stayed at a dive in Grand Falls. We even drove through a place called "Goobies".
How many people can say they've been to St.Anthony, NF!?!
In QC I actually ordered a sub at an all-francophone Subway - which was tough, maybe somewhere between Val D'or and R/N.
Oh man... stories. All part of an RCMP police tower inspection contract. Bumpin' elbows with the local small town cops was interesting too! )

I'll have to get some of my photos/receipts on here from that period of my life.

My tallest was 1000+ft, which was a guyed mast in Ontario... not sure which location - for some reason I want to say Bancroft - though it's not listed - but it's there.
A lot of these TV towers are taller than the tallest buildings in Toronto (not named "CN Tower")
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...nnas_in_Canada

For the tallest ones, you climb 50ft, sit on a rest platform, climb 50ft more, have a granola bar.
Climb 50ft have some water, etc. Took 2 or 3 hours to do the big guy.
And the blackflies at the bottom were among the worst I've ever seen when we were in Bobby Orr's hometown of Parry Sound.
I could go on forever... good way to see the country... not a good job for a family man though.

ps. I WAS scared of heights before I started.
On my training tower (only 50'), I got to the top... puked... blacked out.
The guy training me said this:
"If you fall from 20' to 50', you might live and be paralyzed for life... if you fall from 50'+... you're likely dead... so just remember that a 50' tower and 1000' tower are all the same, it makes it better."
    It actually did help.
My nuts still tingle when I look over a tall railing... but I did manage to overcome it.

Grundy Telecom. I have to say it was a sick job, but you gotta be fine living out of a suitcase for a few weeks at a time. Job was great, but the people I was with weren’t my type of friends. So it eventually came to me just not liking it. The fact I was with the same people 24/7 got to me, I can barely go a week with my friend on vacation let alone work. I got room, food, and gas for free tho, so for 3weeks on 1 week off work it was great. 3 weeks was pure profit, then 1 week of rest and not spending much. To me it was the Alberta work, but still in the “area”.

    Never heard of them.
We'll have to trade some photos.
I have some on my home computer... have to try to put a couple on here tonight.
I might swap some NHL faces (Tkachuk, Backes, Steen, Pavelski, Tyler Johnson) in for my face. LOL.
