What a terrible year for him:
Olli Maatta (shoulder) is reportedly unlikely to return this season.
According to the Post-Gazette's source, it might be a few days before Maatta's status is made official. The Penguins defenseman has been limited to 20 games this season and hasn't played since Dec. 6. He's had terrible luck from a health perspective in 2014-15 as he also needed to have a cancerous tumor on his thyroid gland removed.

They would rather see Chorney as a depth guy in Pittsburgh than Pouliot, and let him still get prime minutes in WBS for now.

I think that the minute he got a cancer diagnosis he was a BAB for the rest of his career. For a depressing number of cases it's only a matter of time before the cancer comes back.

Olli Maatta (shoulder) has officially been ruled out for the rest of the season.
Maatta's fate was reported earlier on Monday and the Penguins confirmed it Tuesday night. He will need to undergo his second shoulder surgery in just eight months. That's on top of the fact that he needed to have a cancerous tumor on his thyroid gland removed and suffered from the mumps this season.
