Default Youngster breakouts - for real or no?

Which of these young guys do you think are due for a breakout this season or will continue to be good fantasy contributors?

    Hertl
    Gaudreau
    Drouin
    Forsberg
    Lindholm
    Soderberg

I own all of these guys in a one year league. Most of them were drafted by other teams and dropped. I had a lot of open space (poor draft in the later rounds) and picked them up. My hope is that I'll end up with 2-3 legitimate fantasy contributors and drop the others.

    Thoughts?

Hertl should be okay - 50ish points
Gaudreau I am not fond of - 35-40ish points
Drouin - 100% dependent on ice time. Could be the best of the bunch, could be the worst
Forsberg - Love him. My choice for the Calder - 55-60ish
Lindholm - great player, wont break out yet - 35ish points

    Soderberg is 29 lol

Gaudreau is for real. His vision and puck skills are out of this world. Watching him every night is so exciting. Something happens every time he has the puck. He will continue to produce if the ice time is there. It should be.

Hertl, IMO, is overhyped and still has a ways to go. Forsberg and Drouin are studs and should continue to put up good numbers also. It will be a three way race between the three (Gaudreau, Forsberg and Drouin) for the Calder. IMO Johnny Hockey will win it (not just because I love him haha, but he's gone against all odds and looked flat out dominant some nights)

Thanks for the input guys. Forbserg definitely seems amazing. And yeah, I realized Soderberg isn't a "youngster" but he's enough of an unknown (to me) to be grouped in here.

I've been watching Drouin's ice time - definitely hoping it sorts itself out soon. I'm expecting him to bounce around a bit before ending up on the 2nd line. Any chance he ends up with stammer?

I don't think so. TB seems to want to be very careful with the kid. I think he levels out on the 2nd line while bouncing between 1PP and 2PP.

I really think he's the best player of the bunch, but TB seems very reluctant to thrust him into a larger role. Which is unfortunate as a Drouin owner myself

Be patient...Boston too was reluctant with Seguin. Look at him now! Bet they'd like to have his hands back now.

I have a feeling you think this was a keeper league thread.
I dont think that kind of patience pays off in a 1 year league. Seguin's 1st season is actually the perfect comparison.
That being said, I am holding onto Drouin just in case he does break out

Yup. Missed the 1 year reference. I stand by my Seguin comparison. But he's too high profile to give up on. I think your decision to hold on is a prudent one despite the 1 year.

    1. Forsberg
    2. Drouin
    3. Gaudreau

I am not sure we have seen the best of any of those guys listed yet, for the most part. Guys like Lindholm and Forsberg are just putting their cars into 2nd gear and its showing on the score sheet. Gaudreau and Drouin are still too fresh to find 2nd gear yet but look out when they do. I think Soderberg is what we see. I don't see much more from him. Hertl is a bit of an enigma. He could fall under the still looking for 2nd gear column or could also line up with Soderberg in the "it is what it is" column.

I just want to mention that Aaron Ekblad is currently on pace for 40 points, while being the best Panthers every single Panthers game. The guy is looking like he played in the NHL for years. Not saying he will hold that pace, but it might be the last time you can get him somehwat cheap.

Well, as long as we're talking one-years here, Forsberg is head and shoulders above anyone else on the list. then Soderberg and Hertl. In a one year, you can't be waiting around for Drouin. There's too much talent there for him to fight through.
