Im thinking of offering another GM my:

MAlkin ( 1 year left at 13.0 out of a total of 100 cap)

for his

Backes (3 years at 5.0)

My thinking is i am allowed to RFA three players per year who's contract is up ad this makes it so i can match any bid that is put on the player, or can let him walk ( example if i let malkin walk i would get 2 1sts and 2 seconds)

As of right now i have 7 quality guys who's contract ends next year

Hartnell
Neal
Malkin
Getzlaf
Kessel
Karllson
Fleury

So im working on cutting that down to 3

Either kessel, karllson and getzlaf

or kessel karllson and fleury ( kessel and karllson are both really cheap)

I figured backes also gives me less points then Malkin but more Peripheral categories and in a 14 team head to head league thats huge

SO what do you guys think

In salary cap, this is a pretty good deal based on terms you said.
You probably are giving up on your shot at winning this year, but it certainly makes you stronger for the future... especially with rising salaries - Backes at $5m in deep multi-cat is gold.
This said, if your server sets Backes a C-only next year, his value as a RW in some leagues takes a hit. Note that.

In summary, hurts you this year, but puts you in good position to bid for players next year.

Crazy like a fox. But on paper it looks like he’s stealing Malkin from you, can you squeeze a pick or two out of him? And I don’t think it would be considered insulting if you asked him this either, so the deal won’t be dead. If you offer Backes +2^nd/1^st/or whatever for Malkin and he declines, you can turn around and say “OK Backes for Malkin then” and he’d accept. Plus it’s not like your losing anything for trying to get a pick out of him. He’d be crazy not to accept Backes for Malkin if he’s going for the win this yr.

so it does ruin my chances to win this year? so Far my team has faced i would say 3 of the top 4 teams and i destroyed them in skating categories, every week i lose +/-, and W, saves so far, but thats because i've only been running 3 G's and 2 of them ( chad johnson ( havent used him much thank god), and martin jones) are both backups with fleury as my main guy

I'm in it to win it this year so will not make the deal if it hurts me this year

But i see backes as a guy who will provide like 600 FOW from RW and putting up more then his share of hits,pims, +/- and i lose in G,A,PPG,PPA

we are both going for the win this year, the deal right now would be malkin for backes and gaborik ( i dont really want gaborik but he is 8.0 in salary for one year son we need to balance salary in this to make it work), I guess what i am asking is, is backes a major downgrade from malkin?? I mean yes malkin is a superstar but he doesnt help in hits and the peripherals whereas backes helps across the board

exactly i thought it was a steal, the other gm is rebuilding and does not like malkin, but what do you guys see malkin being worth, like 2 top 20 forwards, is that enough, too much??

b) Build for future?

You have to choose.

If you want a) Keep Malkin.
If you want b) Trade Malkin.

ok sounds good i will hold off then, im going for it this year so i will hold malkin thank you, my thoughts were all over the place but thanks for talking me out of something i would probably regret REP given to all those who commented
